If you’re paying attention, I should be in Disney World by now. Instead I’m in an Uber going from the Marriott on Bath Road to Terminal 5. Arrived 8am for my 10.30am flight to Miami (note Miami is not Tampa.) Arrived at check in, dropped off the bags (the cast member forgot to give us our baggage receipts, this will be important later.) Went to security and got turned away. The check in staff had not properly set something up with passports, API or estas or something. New boarding passes issued and this time got through.

Boarding went smoothly, my first time on an A380 (it was Mrs Fuzzy’s 5th A380 in 2024 alone…) We had upstairs row 80DEFG which wasn’t a window but was a bulkhead. BA don’t have outside cameras on their A380s which is a bit of a shame, also bulkhead seats mean you can’t watch tv on take off and landing. However it’s extra legroom apart from when people trip over your feet to cut across to the other toilet. We ended up building a barrier with bags and cushions to deter.

It was a good flight. Entertainment worked, the kids loved head to head Tetris (PLEASE! – I used to play that linking two Gameboys together by wire in 1989!) My pro tip – not a vegetarian but I always order the vegetarian meal, it’s always tasty, never dried out. Only managed half of Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, had a sleep, and a brisk 8.5 hours later we landed in Miami. Landing was butter.

I was a bit worried about Miami, it’s been years since I’ve been there but they really have sorted themselves out. Actually resembles an operational airport. While waiting in the security line checked the AirTags and my concerns first arose, one of the bags appeared to still be at Heathrow.

Made our way to baggage reclaim and sure enough only two of the three bags arrived. Ground crew had our name on a list so they already knew (yet didn’t send a text.) And we still had to log a lost bag claim online with them. While there my wife, who works with vulnerable adults, spotted a young woman with a sunflower lanyard and looking distressed. She was meant to be escorted from the plane to the exit, the escort didn’t turn up and neither did her bag. My wife assisted her with the ground grew and as we had roaming gave her our phone to call home and the people waiting on the other side before we escorted her out. Again this is the type of care and attention that has disappeared with BA.

So a pretty decent flight only ruined by it taking place on the wrong day, to the wrong airport, and a missing bag. Onwards…
