So being the devoted boyfriend a few months back I said yes to taking the in-laws to the Bavarian Alp for easter.

We'd done it a couple of years ago with our best friends and had a brilliant time and given that we live right next door perfect weekend planned. Only trouble is BA dropped the LGW-MUC route on the 23rd of March for their new slots to Iceland and someplace else!!! (That's fair enough but I would have thought that they may have kept it on just until after June to get all those football fans there and back and make a few quid as well)So a trip to LHR and keeping it as sress free as possible added an extra night at the hilton so we're on site.

The sad-man in me while on nights when it was quiet decided to do some research and found that the flight are either 320s or 319. A quick look on flyertalk and I found out that you can bag the exit row on the 319 which has like 37/38' pitch!!!

So we booked the specific flights for the 319. Got to the hilton, got out the laptop and 23:50 before departure tried to check in with OLCI. No good. Tried several times and nothing. So called BA (now at 23:10 before departure) and after 15mins on the phone someone answered and just at that moment and the Nth time of trying I could book in. They had put us all the way down the back in rows 15 and 16 but row 9 was empty, so I moved us all into the seats (with an irritating way where you had to keep logging into your booking for every seat)

Now couldn't print the boarding cards but it said we could collect them from zone G machines. So getting bored of the exec lounge and having eaten all the afternoon tea we all headed over to term 1. God this place is a dump. Found our way to zone G and put in our details and out came some weird card saying error. Apparently you can't get your boarding cards from the machine until the day of travel. But a very friendly and helpful BA lady came to our aid, took us to this secret terminal she had and printed out our boarding cards.

So woke up the following day and journeyed back to T1. We had bags to book in and joined the line only to be told we were too early!! We had to wait another 20 mins as they only let you book in 2.5 hours before departure. So upstairs we went to some weird gallery area for a coffee while our 20minutes passed. (I couldn't believe it but apparently even though they are asking people to turn up early due to the new security you can only turn up 2.5 hours in advance)

Bags dropped and then thro security like a breeze. Quick look around T1 and some quick shopping and then off to the Servisair lounge (thank god for priority pass - I couldn't have taken sitting for a couple of hours in the departure area) Flight suddenly got delay by 40 minutes but we were soon showing boarding.

Boarding was swift and there we were in the best Y seats anyone could ask for. Screens came down for the flight demo (slightly virginish cartoon) Then a great 25 minute taxi and hold while 14 departures in front of us left.

Flight was great 1.5 hours, they left the screens down after takeoff with the skymap. Friendly crew anda quick all day deli wrap went down well.

Landed at munich and with swift German efficency we were on stand and off the plan in 10 minutes. (If you have never been to Muc there is so much space!!! the taxi-ways seem at least double anything I've seen at most airport)

So great helpful staff, can't explain the 2.5 hour bag drop thing, nice crew and good service. Pleasantly surprised.
