Checkin was slightly delayed but processed well. The lounge next to Gate 10 was poor compared to VS. Boarding was poor compared to VS - no priority lines and bussed to plane. Once on board (Mrs D was 'welcomed back' even though she has only just joined EC - but the number was on the stub) first impression was that the cabin looked a little tired. The carpet didn't quite reach the edge of the cabin and other little things like that. Drinks were offered but no champagne (we didn't want any but another passenger did) as it was too early and the champagne hadn't been broken out yet.
We settled into our seats and the first thing we noticed was that although the sitting backwards thing is weird it is perfect when travelling as a couple. Easy to chat. The take off position was also very comfortable.
A brunch menu was offered shortly followed by the food itself. This was very tasty and although not as well presented as VS it was most enjoyable. Mrs D got some shut eye and I starting programming. Several times I was offered drinks by passing crew members. Loads were light so I moved to an aisle seat for easier computer access. Towards the end of the flight sandwiches and cake were offered. Again these were tasty.
Throughout the crew were attentive but not intrusive.
The flight arrived pretty much on time and pax were held back to allow Club off first. As a result we were pretty much first to immigration. The dour official seemed bemused by the idea that I'd turn up for 2 weeks with only $200 in my pocket. At least I didn't have to explain the entire concept of ATMs to him.
Down to the luggage belts and there was our luggage - off as priority luggage ought to be. So
Lounge not as good
Boarding not as good
Seats comfortable
Food more edible
Crew less friendly but more professional
Priority baggage better.
Now of course this COULD have been an uncharacteristically good BA flight but we've got another in August so we'll see...
