I love Nashville. Nashville is fab[:X]Having left Memphis early we arrived on the outskirts of Nashville shortly after 11am and headed straight for the Grand Old Opry.Unfortunately (being a Sunday) the doors were resolutely locked and destined to stay that way until Monday morning. As Opry Mills is directly next door we had a quick wander (very similar to Sawgrass Mills) and bought some Goo Goos (a very unhealthy heart attack in a chocolate bar that tastes divine[:D]).As we were now ravenous we headed off to the supposed location of Jim Neelys in Nashville but Phyllis (the faithful sat nav) was completely unable to find it[:?]. She did however locate a nearby Cheesecake factory so off we headed for some grub, before heading off to the Vanderbilt Marriott which was to be our home for the night. Mr DL didn't particularly want to go out (fearing it would be similar to Memphis) but I was having none of his protestations and following a short rest and freshen up we were off on our way to Downtown. The Marriott offer a shuttle service and our driver (Jason)gave us some great recommendations on where to go driving around a couple of times for us to get our bearings. He also stated that the city is very safe (unlike Memphis) and there is generally very little trouble anywhere. He also recommended a blues singer (Stacey Mitchard)who was playing at BB Kings later in the evening. To cut a long story short we had a great night- we started out at the Wildhorse saloon for beer, music and dancing (line[:0]), off to BB Kings for the recommended singer(who was so good we stayed for two sets) and more beer, and then off to a country and western karaoke bar for more music and beer (first time I've been in a karaoke bar in my life). The singers here were generally excellent and at some ungodly hour we hopped in a cab back to the hotel. Needless to stay we slept well and once up and dressed we walked over to The Parthenon just accross the road in Centennial Park. The Parthenon is an exact replica of the one in Athens (only much cleaner and in a much more peaceful location).
As we had a lunchtime flight we really didn't have time to go back to the Grand Old Opry so we had the car brought up and had a quick drive around Downtown before heading to the airport. Having returned the car we headed to the AA check in (having checked in on-line the previous evening). The agent at drop off said the flight load was very light and said she'd make sure nobody else was sat in our row. She also waived the baggage fees when we confirmed we were flying back to the UK with AA in a few days time which I thought was kind (as we were fully expecting to pay the $15 first bag $25 second bag as it asn't a connecting flight) .We then headed for security where yet again (and as expected) the carry on bag full of car parts caused some concern.Lots of puzzled looks and scratching of heads. TSA were again very pleasant and polite (why this defeats them in every other US state I really don't know). The TSA agent who checked the bag was obviously a bit of a car bore too, as he knew what most of the parts were and wanted to know what was being re-built.
He again thanked us for our patience , wished us a good trip and having re-packed the bag we headed off to seek some food and found a Jim Neelys (no ribs though only sandwiches)[:D]. One pulled pork and slaw sandwich later our flight was called and I had just enough time to buy a couple more boxes of Goo Goos[:D].Even though the load was light, boarding was strictly enforced , with priority boarding followed by zone. The flight was only about a third full and the attendant said we could move after take off if we so wished.
Nice new 737,clean, comfortable (not like the concrete NWA seats)with decent legroom. The loos were spotless too.Departure was prompt and we were soon airbourne. One of the crew worked the first class cabin (which was full) and the other two worked coach.Drinks were served once we'd reaced cruising altitude (soft free, alcoholic $6, snacks $4) and offered a replenishment a little while after that. Mr DL did move to the empty exit row in front so I had 1 1/2 hours of peace (watching Dave which was shown on the overhead monitor). The flight was uneventful and we were soon descending into sunny MIA.Following arrival at the gate we were off within minutes and by the time we got to the reclaim area the bags were coming around.Having grabbed the bags we were at Dollar within 20 mins and on our way 5 mins after that (Dollar Express makes a massive difference if it's busy).
Good flight and a great end to our Southern expedition. When we go back (I know we will because Dragonbaby wants to see Graceland and the Gibson factory, and the truth be told I'd love to do Graceland again) we'll stay in Nashville and drive to Memphis.

Wow!

Yea the Cheesecake Factory in Green Hills Mall is pretty nice. In fact that mall was gone very upscale recently with Louis V, Lacoste, Cartier, etc. Hell Green Hills is one of the nicer areas in Nashville.

The Marriott at Vandy is a great hotel. I like that Wendy's at the base of the hotel plus the row of bars to the left of the hotel.

I miss Nashville.

Nashville TSA are very nice. They sign holiday songs starting around Thanksgiving. Many of those guys are lifers.

Oooh, I forgot to mention Wendys[:D] .We staggered in there at stupid o'clock after our night of bebauchery as we were starving. Nashville's answer to the kebab van [}:)]. The (flat) diet coke did me the world of good in the morning[:$] (fast asleep before I could drink it and yes, I know I'm a disgrace. I don't get out much[:I]). There are loads of great places around the hotel to eat/ drink .I'm still cursing that we only had one night there. Green Hills Mall is very, very, nice (even the usually supercilious A+F staff were sweeties).
Nicest Marriot I've stayed in a for a while. So glad we went to Nashville, and can't wait to go back.
