After a couple of days wandering around the Christmas market in Basel, drinking some Gluwein and eating smoked sausages it was time to head home.

The bus to the airport is very efficient and takes about 15 mins from the train station in town. At the airport it was really quiet - a queue of people waiting for the BA desk, but no-one at the self-service check-ins that weren't advertised on the ticket.

Through security which was three lanes and just the two of us. The duty free was very expensive - quoted in Euros, which was very confusing. Headed off to the Swiss Lounge, which BA use there. Really really nice. It is at the end of the air-side area and has three levels, with a huge glass doomed roof and lots of light. There were several self-service bars and during the week I think there is a serviced bar in the sky loungne. For most of the time, it was just the two of us rattling around in there. Lots of alcohol, including freely available champagne.....but only some snacks to eat.

Headed back to the gate as there are no calls in there, and the flight was a little delayed. A few annoyed people due to the delay due to possibly missing connections, although it was only 25 minutes late!! Got on board and realised it was only the 2 of us in 4 rows of Club! I really like it when the flight is empty up the front, as you really feel special! No drinks pre-flight as on the way out, as it was a very quick taxi to the runway.

The service was a salad again, which was pretty nice although not as good as the flight out. Plenty of drinks offered and the flight seemed to fly by. The annoying thing is that on an hour or so flight, we circled at LHR for nearly 30 minutes, making us even later!!

Terminal 5 was empty - we got a B gate.....had hoped for one of these on the outbound to be able to experience a different Galleries, and it did mean a longer trek back to the security.

All in all a pleasant flight - worth it just for the lounge in Basel!

Thanks for taking time to write, hope you didnt have too much smoked sausage?
CE could have offered a little more than a salad surely? but overall it sounded very decent.

cheers

Thanks for your reports, must say I have always enjoyed our CE trips, not done one for a bit and you have wetted my appetite.

You didn't miss anything by not visiting the T5B Galleries its the same food drink and decor as the north and south T5 offerings.Apart from being smaller, crowded, too hot and Mrs JP said the ladies toilets stunk to high heaven and needed a good clean.
