On arrival at GSO I asked if my bags could be checked through to ORK. Certainly, madam. Yippee! However the whole thing fell down when it was discovered that CO had no interlining arrangement with EI and so I would have to collect at LHR. No problem but then I asked if my bags would go into the priority bin at EWR. The check-in agent (who was superb) tried and tried but as I was not in Continental First it was no dice so I opted to claim and re-check at EWR. Priority baggage at LHR was more important to me than through-checking.
After a couple of glasses of wine and a tearful farewell to one of my dearest friends it was through to security where the TSA guy looked at my boarding card and passport and then said, 'Have a nice flight, Mrs honey lamb'. At the screening area, the guys were charm itself. 'Do I need to remove my shoes?' 'May I see?' Then 'If you don't mind' You've just gotta love Southern charm.
The departure lounge included the mandatory screaming baby but it was also obvious that loads were light. We pushed back ten minutes early but had to wait for 15 minutes in the penalty box.
I am in 5A once more in a 1-2 configured Embraer and have had a coffee and pretzels. We are just beginning our descent from a perfectly acceptable flight.
I think this route will be my route of choice for future flights to GSO
