Check in at EWR was fast and efficient. As I needed wheelchair assistance I was a little apprehensive it being the first time this has ever happened. However my concerns were totally unjustified. The wheelchair was waiting for us at check in, we had called ahead to request it, and check in itself was fast and friendly.

Through security, which took forever as I had to take to be frisked as the leg brace set off the alarms. Fortunately this was done with the utmost respect and I was not really inconvenienced at all.

We have Priority Pass cards (free with the Credit Card) and so were able to use the lounge which was very peaceful and comfortable.

Boarding was called and as a wheelchair passenger we were amongst the first on board. I was really impressed with the seats. They were huge airchairs and there was so much legroom and I was able to rest my leg raised all through the flight.

We were served a meal by the surliest CC I have ever come across. It was a prawn salad - take it or leave it. Mr A hates prawns and asked if there was anything else, he would have had a sandwich from economy and the CC offered him the salad without the prawns! No matter, it was a three hour flight and we certainly would not starve.

This flight is usually full of 'snow birds' heading to Florida for the winter and many of them are seriously elderly. It took forever for boarding to complete and then the most surreal thing happened.

An elderly lady had passed by with what looked like a pet carrier and I had remarked on this to Mr A who simply said to me that I was imagining things. Same lady comes back to the front cabin and she is shouting that she cant get the cat into the overhead locker
[:0]

There then commenced some discussion between the irate lady and the cc there was some suggestion that the cat should be put under an empty seat as long as the passenger next to the empty seat did not mind but in the end the lady and the cat were offloaded.

I ask you who in their right mind would put a cat in the overhead locker. I still wonder how the pair of them made it in the end.

The flight was quick and uneventful.

We were soon in Fort Myers and I was helped off the plane to a waiting wheelchair. As I was being helped, another elderly lady pushed past me, shouting I'm first, I'm first! No problem m'am you go first. What was funny was that there were 15 wheelchairs waiting for our flight! Hopefully this will be the first and last time for me.

The wheelchair guy wheeled us up to the luggage hall, helped Mr A with the cases and then wheeled us to our rental. So different from the wheelchair service at Heathrow.

All in all a good short flight. The CC in our cabin was a sour faced ***. All the other cc were very friendly and helpful.

I still wonder why some carriers allow pets in the cabin - should be guide dogs only.

I have a friend who has a pet Siamese cat who when we last met was a kitten. We were in San Francisco with a group of friends and our every move was dictated by the cat's needs! They had brought the kitten from Colorado Springs and still continue to ferry him around the states!

Avalon

I was wondering how you got from new York to Miami[:D]

All my recent experiences on flying First on internal US flights have proved most pleasurable with excellent Flight Attendants on both Delta and American - so perhaps I need to be careful if booking CO[:?]

Don't you just love the way snowbirds expect everything for nothing[}:)]

Thank you for the great TR.[y]

Without causing an argument, I feel the older generation who are over 70 think they can get away with murder. They ask for respect but they barge, queue jump, moan and are worse than most teenagers that I know.[V]

Surely everyone knows that the overhead lockers are for children!
