After my meeting, I grabbed a taxi to the train station. Due to EU summit there, the roads were completely congested and it took ages to get there - this is despite my taxi driver thinking he was on a grand prix track and driving like a maniac on the wrong side of the road honking his horn for most of the way. I hadn't even asked him to go fast!!

Was booked on the 19:52 back to London but arrived at 18:30. As I was travelling in business premier, I asked if it was possible to go on the 18:52 - response "of course" and "would you prefer a table for two" - that's what I call service and now I realise the benefits of a business premier ticket with flexibility and 10 minute check in times! Through immigration and security just as boarding announced. Nipped to the lounge to i) see what it was like as won't be travelling in BP again; ii) use the toilet; and iii) grab a diet coke. It seemed like a nice place but it was really busy and this was after boarding was announced! Toilet used and diet coke acquired, it was off to the train!

Again carriage was very quiet and once the doors were shut, I moved myself to a table for four so I could spread out for the journey home.

As soon as we departed on time again, drinks were served again including champagne - this time each customer was asked "champagne I presume" - of course was the response from most!! Refills of champagne were then offered and the meal trolley appeared. No menus this time, so you will have to put up with my attempts to identify what was offered!

Starter
What looked like some cheese in a tortilla wrap and chopped mushroom salad (very odd to be as a starter!)

Mains
Cod with I presume was carrot puree on top, green beans and roasted new potatoes in a garlic oil sauce (I had this hence the better description and it was pretty good)

Lamb with potatoes and mushrooms (from what I saw)

Dessert
Belgian chocolate and mousse dessert - extremely tasty indeed

Cheese, caramelised apple and bread

Wines
Red
Bordeaux Superieur Chateau Mugron 2009

White
Vin de France Chardonnary Grand Sud 2010

Rose
Vin de Pays d'Oc Reserve de la Baume 2010

Champagne
Pannier champagne

Drinks served with the tray, if required, and further top-ups during the journey. Service on this journey was efficient but not particularly friendly! Hot towels were distributed shortly after the meal service.

This train was even more shabby than the outbound train. The toilet in particular needed a good clean - the blue toilet rinse had obviously spilled over when it had been flushed during a bouncy part of the journey in the past as it was dried all over the walls and floor!!

Arrived on time at London St Pancras - there was an additional UK passport check on arrival and you had to produce your ticket to prove you had travelled on the train! Those who had left their tickets on the train, were taken to one side for additional questions/checks.

Overall impression
Service was efficient but not friendly on board. Food was ok - disappointing not to be given menus as like to know what I am eating! Trains getting very shabby - bring on some new ones or give the old ones a good clean!! Although Business Premier is a luxury, it was great being able to change my ticket very last minute and get home over an hour earlier!
