It certainly looks it from the spec. I have had a Fuji S600 Zoom for about 3 years now and I wouldn't change it (except of course for one of the new digital Nikon's:D).

In a recent independent review, the Fuji Finepix came off worse than the cheaper Kodak digital model.

The quality of the picture you get out of these things isn't just about the number of megapixels, as with traditional film cameras, the optics also play a major part. If it has a better lens, you'll get a better picture.

oh hell, totaly forgot about that, canon has the rebel XT SLR with lense on sale over here for $999 now.

if your looking to go a little lower take alook at the casio range of cameras, they give a VERY good picture, battery life is amazing for a digi cam,i've owned three of them now, everytime I go looking for a replacement "small" camera I end up with a casio.

Sounds like a bargain, and with a bit of firmware tweaking you can turn it into the more expensive 10D ;)

However, the wallet-bashing will come when you need the lens. The bundled option (which obviously you're not considering if you're looking at Body Only), is a bit pants. If you can stretch to it, get the Canon "L" lens glass, which gives you fantastic results.

The Canon 3xxD Series over here is the same as the Digital Rebel series over in the States. The cheapest place to buy them appears to be Hong Kong, via eBay ;)

I think the Digital Rebel XT is the same as our 350D.

Nice bit of kit, and with the appropriate lens, you can get stunning images out of it.

Yeah, sounds about right, Digital Rebel was the 300D.

I absolutely hate the rebranding excersies in different country my former employer does.

At least you don't have to use a Digital Elph camera :D.

Decker, I can highly recommend any on the Canon digital SLR's. I've had a 300D and now use a 20D. Small compacts are much more travel friendly but the new generation of digital SLR's can produce some stunning results, especially when used with some decent glass.

My best ever ... http://www.airliners.net/open.file/923925/L/
