Hi,

We are travelling through Atlanta and have about 6 hours to kill at the airport, is it possible to go into town for a few hours and is there much to do.
Also what lounge do VS use at Atlanta and is it any good?

Thanks in advance

6 hours is doable but tight getting into town,

Lounges, if your flying in with virgin upper and connecting with delta then you can use any of the delta lounges, and there are a lot. 6 Hours would give you the time to try multiple ones if you wanted to.

I wouldn't bother going anywhere with just 6 hours. Do the DL SkyClub challenge and visit every single one of the DL lounges at ATL. Be prepared to queue up to get in some of them though (the International one especially).

DL have major issues with lounge capacity which they are now finally slowly starting to address this via the changes they have already made and the recently announced further SkyMIles Medallion cull (which is long over due and rightly so as well IMHO).

Agreed, ATL isn't far from downtown, but with the faff its not really worth it you'd not get time to do much really.

We have slightly changed our plans. We are now flying MIA - ATL the day before our flight back to Manchester ( flying Delta first using points, 55k plus $11 for two, how are the USA fees so cheap compared to VS )

We are now looking at a hotel for the night in Atlanta, does anyone have any recommendations ?
We arrive around 8pm and do you think airport hotel, or travel downtown. We fly at 7.30pm the next day.

Thanks again in anticipation,

Steve

Marriott have 4 hotels described as 'gateway' if you search which are on the little internal airport train so really handy for getting into / out of the airport. They are a bit more handy when connecting onto a domestic flight than for the return back to the UK, but we've stayed at both the Marriott and Staybridge and they were fine.

Having said that, given the lateness of your flight out, maybe a downtown hotel would be more fun? Sorry I can't help with these though as we've always stayed at the airport.

We have stayed at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway and it is 1 stop on the train to the car rental from the Domestic Terminal . There was a bus from the Domestic to International terminals. We have booked it again for an overnight next February as the VS109 now arrives too late for any onward connection to RSW.
