There's a new bunch of software updates from Apple for various iPods (including the video iPod and nano) here.

Updated my video iPod to the new version 1.1 - to be honest I've not noticed anything different though.

Put mine to 1.1 last Friday - didn't seem to make any difference either.

Although I can't import one of my movies through Podner to it now for some strange reason... [?]

I use ImTOO iPod converter. It only converts any type of movie file to iPod format, then I just import the newly created iPod formatted movie into iTunes.

Hi James,

Great for a PC, but useless on a Mac I'm afraid. (Hence Podner)

What is the difference between the free download and the paid for version of ImTOO?
On an aside, my video iPod makes some strange noises when accessing the hard drive - does any one else experience anything similar?

I can get a clear 12 hours, audio only, but there are a few things that kill it:

Video = 2 hours, max. Seems the constant flicking of millions of pixels eats that battery real quick.
Changing songs = unless you let the ipod do the work (suffle/playlist), the pre-load it does is wasted. That can lose a good 2 hours off the battery life
Clicking through looking at artwork, etc = another hour or so gone from a full charge.

Is she doing any of those?

You can only encode up to 5 mins of a movie with the demo version.

You can also try the Videora iPod video coverter which works fine, and has the added advantage of being freeware. :D

I've used it but, since I tend to put vids onto my ipaq for the improved screen and control, it hasn't been heavily employed.

Best wishes

Thanks James, I found out after downloading it and trying to encode some video ;)
And yes, searching on google led me to find Videora, it seems to work fine just now [y]

There are a number of problems associated with the 1.1 software for the 5th Gen iPod. It seems to be a bit hit and miss whether or not they affect your player - the 1.1 update was released to allow sycing with the apple remote I'd advise reading the iPod forum. For the moment I've resisted updating my 5th Gen player to 1.1 because of lottery problems associated.

I think the major problem is that video playback is compramised.
