Interestingly, some are reporting that iPhone sales are lower than hoped. No official numbers yet though...

Another report seems to suggest that Register story underestimated the volumes and as many as 70,000 UK iPhone were sold over the first weekend. In an interesting comparison with the US, where one iPhone was sold per 1,111 Americans, if the 70,000 figure is accurate, then Apple managed to shift 1 iPhone per 860 Brits.

Of course we won't know the accurate figures until Apple publish their report.

The Gadget Show had a comparison test between the iPhone, the Sony and a Nokia. (iphone won due to its look )
But what did come out was the iphone cannot take video??

Yes, it's true, the iPhone ain't a video camera. Possibly something for a future software update (it has a perfectly serviceable iSight-style camera onboard).

Personally not something I've missed, as in 4 years of owning video-capable phones, I've never once used them to take video (my DV camera does a much better job of that sort of thing [;)])

Unless you suddenly saw something that you simply had to film but with no DV camera to hand. [;)]

It may be a generational thing, but I can honestly say I've never been a situation where I simply had to film what was happening in front of me on my phone. Maybe it's a YouTube mindset?

I've found Edge available in all areas of the UK I've been on the Vodafone network, and here in the US.
It's also been announced this morning on the news, by the AT&T CEO that they are testing a new iPhone that can download data from the Internet faster.

So perhaps the 3G version is coming along soon, despite Jobs saying it drains the battery too much.

I think Jobs said at the UK launch that the current 3G chipsets are a big battery drain, but I guess that's a hint that he knows future chips will be much better at the task.

I would be surprised if there wasn't an announcement at the MacWorld keynote in January, or if not then, by March next year at least.

I suppose Apple will do what they did with the iPods...up the battery life sufficiently enough to allow 3G chipsets on the iPhone,

My guess is that they will do that, and at the same time increase storage capacity and (hopefully) add GPS so as to really take advantage of the Google Maps.

No doubt we'll see many incremental software updates aswell, although these may not require a hardware bump.

Finally got to activate my new iphone last night, it lasted about 2 hours before throwing a complete wobbler and expiring. It lasted just enough time for me to spend £35 in the itunes store then died before I had synced the music to my laptop, have I lost this music? O2 are exchanging me the phone Wednesday hopefully.

Not sure JP. The iPhone seems to keep purchases from the iTunes music store separate from normal purchases, so don't know if that means the handset is the thing that remembers you buying it. I suspect, at worse, Apple will be able to recover your purchases manually if they don't automatically appear when you get your new phone since it's all done via your AppleID.
