Excellent choice Alex[y] - just a slight warning however with regards to Firefox, I've personally had a few issues when I installed FF Beta 2 (few issues = knackered windows and I had to do a full system reinstall[:(!], lost everything) but know others (Sarah & Jeremy) are using it no problems, but for now Im back on the same version as Alex!

Thanks for the advance warning [y]

I mentioned earlier on this thread about doing a system reinstall in June and quite frankly I don't want to be doing another one so soon. Until then it had been over 3 years of mostly trouble-free computing.

I don't think I will be downloading BETA versions of anything anymore anyway after reading about Firefox and IE on here as well as with some issues with Windows Live Messenger BETA I had after LPA (good old MSN 7.5 I'm sticking with for now).

Well basically before I went on hols I had Windows Live, but the PC at my hotel was MSN 7.5 and while I was there I added some contacts. When I got back Windows Live kept deleting them so I had to re-enter them and and they got deleted again. I found that putting MSN 7.5 back on solved the problem and I was able to talk to them after that.

BETA software is BETA software, and as Neil found out (sadly, the hard way), most BETA releases are unstable in some shape or form, though dependant on the program, the way you use it, or the platform you are using it on, you might not see any of this.

DO NOT download and install BETA software of any incarnation if you are not computer savvy or are not prepared for crashes, glitches and the odd reformat.

One thing that really irks me about MS is the way they push their BETA's (Live and WMP 11 for example) when the vast majority of their audience do not know how to get the programs off their system if they develop issues.

Firefox issues as statement with their BETAs advising only 'web application developers and the testing community' to use BETA builds. Serves as a good reminder for what we are getting ourselves into when installing tht 'new version'.

I have the Alpha of Firefox 3.0 at home, it's codename is 'minefield' for a good reason! ;)

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks for telling me this now[ii] after Windows crashed and I lost everything from the last 2 years........ only joking, but you are totally right (of course;)) Beta is a dangerous thing if you haven't got a much computer nounce about yourself.

Agreed. And I'd add never install anything that's Release Version 1.0
