Apologies, this query is a bit girly ;) but there maybe someone out there that can help...
Travelling to India next week and want to know if its worth taking hair straighteners and/or hairdryer.
Question is are they likely to work in India, due to different voltage etc ?

Any advice very much appreciated.

Thanks

Well I know that India is 240 volts and I also know that you use some 'weird' plug so you will need an adapter for the plug, but assuming you can find one then it should work assuming you have power.

Indian plugs/sockets are weird. I think they're a legacy of British coloial days since they are essentially what we used to call roundpin 15 here. Nobody (outside of theatres uses them these days). I've only ever found them abroad in India and South Africa and adapters are hard to buy in this country. I have found though that all decent hotels I've stayed at in India (and a lot of offices as well) have a row of sockets on the wall which fit just about everything under the sun. UK-style sockets seem quite common in some places. They seem to expect that you won't have the right adapter!
