Hi guys,
I was thinking about upgrading to the new video iPod, currently have 2.3. However, i dont have a USB 2 connection. When i bought my first iPod (2.3) it came with firewire which i had to buy a card for my comupter for. Now firewire is quick and dont want to have to transfer over USB 1 again. So my question is can i use the My current iPod firewire cable to connect the new iPod video to my comp?

Thanks

Nope.

I tried using an old apple dock connector cable (with both firewire and USB2 connectors on the end of it) when I got my ipod video.

It spat at me, and told me off for even trying such a thing. [:I]

You can CHARGE the ipod using the FW cable, but the latest revisions will not transfer songs over it I'm afraid.

With some of the material that you have on your iPod, I'm surprised it only spat at you ;)

Thanx guys,

So it looks like a USB 2 card then. Is USB 2 as quick as FW? Also whats battery life like. My battery status icon is broken on my now. I can usually squeeze out about 3-4 hrs on it.

I installed a Belkin USB2 card from PCW, it had 2 external USB2 and one internal and 2 external FW and one internal. It also had its own internal power supply socket to take power from the UPS rather than rely on the motherboard.

It was a PCI card and the blurb stated that W2000 SP4 had the required drivers already... great, but they didn't work. [:?] So no probs, use the driver cd that comes with the card... but that didn't work either [n]. So now I have a £40.00 card that is no good to me whatsoever, well not in this PC anyway. Ho Hum [:(!]

I had a bit more luck with my firewire card just pluged it in the PCI slot and it worked didnt need to instal any drivers.

EDIT: Final question white or black? Do i stay tru to the original or go for something new?

A matter of personal choice methinks. Mine is a 60GB video in white, must be the purist in me ;)

White iPod = Mac Genius

Black iPod = Nasty Windows PC user

Personally I went for a Black. Reading some Apple boards such as iLounge there's suggestions that the Black one scratches/shows up scratches more than the white, however mine hasn't been scrateched because I've installed a bestskinever.

In order to maximise my battery life I let it charge overnight for the first time and then run down completely then recharge again and then run down - I did this 4 times under the advice of Apple. Now I also make sure that I don't charge it whilst it still has some charge in it's battery.

Seen the video before and it is funny, we do have an entire team dedicated to designing packaging. We have to do some of that stuff due to the silly, silly complaints we have had in the psat about certain things, such as disk space, system requirments etc...

Thanks,
Richard

P.S Paul, it's a Black 30Gb iPod Video.

Great Video, IMHO, watching it should be a mandatory requirement for all marketeers!
