hey folks
I recently downloaded a few song from the tesco website but the songs I got wont play on my MP3 player!

The player supports the format I downloaded the songs on... any ideas?

Hi Kris, have you checked that your MP3 player supports Digital Rights Management encryption (DRM 9 or above). They mention this requirement on the Tesco download site.

I once downloaded from Tesco - the clubcard points attracted me, but the track couldn't find the license to play - so it refused to play. However when I e-mailed the customer services their help was a pre-typed response and it just helped me solve an issue which I hadn't described in my first e-mail.

ahh that could be it - Shame if that is the problem but I'll mail them anyway and see what they say!

Thanks!

But then you could always burn it to CD (which is allowed under most downloaded DRM) and then RIP it back again using iTunes (or similar) and then put it on your iPod.

I have a real issue with this specific way that music is 'protected'. Why should I be punished for buying online? If I pay for music (with the money going to the artist rather than a pirate) I expect to be able to listen to it however I please.

Two rounds of lossy encoding can make the music sound a bit rubbish sometimes. A way round that, though, would be to use lossless encoding the second time round.
