Sorry, this isn't a travel query specifically - but am sure someone, somewhere has mentioned Pipex favourably.I've been looking at their broadband packages, and would just be interested to hear if anybody has used/is using them and what they think of their service?

Personally don't use them, but have friends that do, they all have good things to say about them. I use plus.net personally, first class service!

Perhaps I've got that muddled up - I do remember a few people here talking about plus.net - both begin with 'P'....

Plus.net have had a few problems recently. They lost 700GB of customer emails and then this... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/07/20 ... complains/

I'd have a read of the forums of ADSLGuide for some comments, but remember that opinions would normally be from people not happy. People with no issues tend not to post as much.

I used Pipex at my last house, and whilst their ADSL service was good, their customer service was appalling. Since I moved house, almost 2 years ago, I've been using PlusNet and up until recently would've recommended them all the way.

I've been starting to have a few niggling problems with PN though - although it seems that my connection stability has improved dramatically (after my upgrade to MaxDSL, I got some really poor connectivity issues). However, I recommended a friend to PN, and since they were signed up, their connection's been very very dodgy to say the least - which is embarrassing for me as the person that recommended them. Not only that, I'm not credited with the referral, because PN think we're both too stupid to know how to click on a link in an email [ii]. Add to that some stupid direct debit issues I've had and their lack of ability to understand the problem or communicate their answers correctly, and I'm getting rapidly disillusioned with what was a really good service [:(]

Cheers

As I understand it, and it's only second hand info I have on this, the way MaxDSL works is to find the 'best connection' to achieve maximum throughput - but I've heard many reports that this has meant multiple disconnect/reconnects, which can give intermittent performance in normal browsing, and be absolutely disastrous if you're an online gamer (you'll keep being kicked out of World of Warcraft, just as you're about to roll on the Epic Set... [/geek mode off])

That should only be in the first few days at most, while the "Maximum Stable Rate" is established - we pretty much did that one to death towards the end of this thread ;) My disconnects were definitely out of the ordinary, and required a BT engineer visit to play with the noise ratio and do a couple of tweaks at the exchange (IIRC) - pretty sure my friend's facing the same problem.

To be fair, PN have acknowledged that the MaxDSL rollout has adversly affected a lot of customers - apparently they're arguing with BT about it.

Cheers
