IE7 *FINAL* Released

Not sure if anyone else noticed it, but we've gone from Beta to Final, somewhat more silently than usual for MS...

There was a launch campaign on the main microsoft.com site, and it will be pushed down as an AU via WU very shortly. We're busy gearing up for our EVO launch (that's Exchange, Vista and Office).

Noticed it the other day. Yeah it seems to have been a 'soft' launch.

It's very easy to upgrade to as well (even if you have an existing beta version of IE7 on your PC).

Dont un-install anything, just run the setup program. It will first un-install any previous IE7 versions, re-start your PC then install itself once your PC has re-booted.

Now thats a good reason to keep AU switched off. I really don't like IE7 - tried the Beta before, and the final version in work on Friday. Maybe I've been using Firefox too long, but IE7 just doesn't gel for me, don't like the interface.

But MS say I must have it and they've broken a lot of MS sites for me at the moment so am going to be foreced into it. Hopefully they'll get the fix for the Windows Live Login on Firefox out soon. So that at lease I can check out the Support pages without having two browsers open. [V]

I have IE View and IE Tab - generally work, but i've found that for some sites they can sometimes get a bit confused. Firefox Extensions Rock!

Just downloaded IE7 ( yeah Im cautious!!) and I think its great - some of the features of Firefox like "tabs" are cool and it displays really well on a wide screen!!

Just for those who may be interested, before rolling out IE7 to everyone check sites you / staff regularly use. There are several sites my company uses that IE7 breaks.

Same here, just built a nice joomla site, and IE7 breaks it. Bah humbug!!

Not tried it yet Chuck, but I have a horrible feeling Microsoft never thought about that. Not sure its possible - but hopefully others will correct me on this.

Technically, you are supposed to just uninstall IE7 from the 'Add/Remove' programs part of Control Panel and it should revert back to IE6.

I had huge issues doing this with the Beta and had to fudge some of the registry to get it off my system. I would assume that this has been fixed in the final version.

Well, you can hope ... or wait for a SP [:P].

Are you using XP Pro Chuck? If so you may be able to restore to a point before you installed IE7? But don't be too surprised if the restore feature doesn't do a good job.

Thanks, everyone, for the advice. You know I that know absolutely nothing about such things. Think perhaps I'm better off leaving the system alone until I am in the same room with one of you techno-wizard types.

System Restore worked fine on my work machine that also didn't get on with IE7.
