Hey, intereting comments on this issue. I for one am not too bothered about the lack of time downroute, what is more annoying is the reduction in allowances....for this reason I can see alot of crew going sick for this duty. Not me tho. From what I hear this is still only a temporary measure due to lack of crew, according to sources from within the Base (our training HQ) they will be training between Christmas and New Year and form the beginning of next year we will have 2 courses a week starting their Intial Cabin Crew training. On the other hand I know alot of crew who fly for us who would be quite happy to only be away from 0730 on a monday until 1900 on a Tuesday....many part timers with kids etc.....I personally hope its only a temporary measure tho.

ÒInciting customers to bring pressure seems to me to be the wrong way forward.Ó And IÕm sure that was the point of starting this thread in the first place.

Yes, I agree, everybody is entitled to an opinion. But this is a different situation. Unless I read the comments incorrectly, VITB suggests that standards of service will drop through CC being tired, this in turn would include safety.

My feelings are that it is totally unprofessional to make such suggestions & falsely gives the impression that VS are just trying to do the CC out of rest time down route. As previously stated, this would have to fit in with strict regulations & ALL considerations would have been made for passenger safety.

Lastly, IÕd have a read of your contract of employment VITB. I think youÕll find you could be in very hot water if VS wanted to make an issue of this information being discussed in a public forum (thatÕs not even considering some of your negative suggestions).

Whilst VITB has received a lot of "poor you - come and do my job for a while" type replies, I don't think they have been harsh, personal or disrespectful.
Right or wrong place to discuss internal politics, it has certainly opened an interesting debate on how hard done by some of us feel. We are not all on the flight on the way to or from some exotic holiday and like the crew maybe we feel overworked and underappreciated, and just want to sink back in our seats and look grumpy!
That said, if you don't like the job, why are you doing it?

VITB, Quite rightly pointed out this news of VAs proposals so you guys who pay our wages will appreciate a lack of usual dedication and high levels of service you are used to.

While I appreciate that many people on this forum also work long hours, I would expect that your Bank balance would reflect these long duties.

If with the new trips a crew member is on stand by from 12 - 8 pm they could get called for a vs25 with a potential of a 14 hr duty (excluding travelling) then 12hrs before a night flight back!

CC are responsible for your safety bear in mind its not just the cabin crew but also the chaps at the front flying the aircraft who will also be tired !! now does that concern you? It does me!

I think that the company is making a big mistake and we would urge you guys to support us in this, after all its your safety at the end of the day...

I've stayed away from this thread until I saw this comment. This is not the vehicle for you to be asking that question, nor is it a question that you should be asking of any of your customers - unless a clear service/safety issue is brought up after the new roster is brought in (remembering that we've been on the advice of "don't knock it til you've tried it" from crew on other contentious issues like GNF & Snooze Packs).

Just because this site is generally in favour of VS, please don't try and play on that.

Cheers

Absolutely ditto. I had been watching this thread with a detached interest, however the quoted comment is utterly inappropriate[V] and as someone already said, if you don't like the job remember it's a free market and a free job world we are priviledged to be in...[}:)]

Cheers!

Hey, obviously this has turned into a fairly hot topic. Although I am crew for Virgin and am not pleased with this new route pattern....there is absolutely noting I or any other crew member can do, It is legal. The only way we can change this is to speak to Union officials, Although I find it strange that this was not done before the whole new route pattern was passed onto us, as many people have said at VAA for every 1 crew member there are thousands of buddin VAA crew who would happily do the odd short NYC trip. Therefor I think we should go through the appropriate channels if we feel disgruntled. It is not proffesional and in keeping with VAA to talk about safety issues on a public forum, be aware that management do look at these forums and do there utmost to find out the culprit if it is thought to be showing the company in a bad light. Good attempt at diffusing the situation PVGSLF [^]

Is it not perhaps time for all 'combatants' to agree to disagree and lock this one off, thereby saving any more upset or bad feeling?

As has been pointed out already by others, there IS a staff forum with access restricted to staff where opinions of other staff can be sought. By opening the debate to the wider forum the OP has effectively ensured that they will receive a broad spectrum of replies from those who believe that VS staff can do no wrong to those who believe the opposite. However we would respectfully remind all members of our policy of mutual respect and conciliation.

And again this isn't a democratic forum. If anything it is a benevolent dictatorship. ;). Guess that makes us mods some kind of Stasi?....

But then if he/she didnt post on here we wouldnt know!?! We would just think that pehaps there being rude for know reason on these flights. I do have some sympthay but for a month doing a flight every three days and working on the days in between it is hard but you do it because it puts food on the table

Ok firstly let me apologise if my last comment has offended some of you.. In my comment in urging support I was more refering to the comments which were saying negative things against CC in their missunderstanding of hours. I was also only trying to point out that all working employees were affected and not just CC.

I guess the reason is that all the CC on here are passionate about the service they deliver and what you receive. I agree that lets at least try this trip patern. "dont knock it until youve tried it"

I was not indicating that There were any safety issues involved as I know VAA take Safety and security very seriously. I was just highlighting why alert crew were important not as some replys had made out in the thread.

Finally I would apologise once more If anyone was offended by the comment, I too had been watching the thread until my post and would agree that this should be locked now for everyones good.

You are so right in what you have said in this post. I think most of us using the site would agree with your professional approach to the topic in question.

I do believe thought that now is the time to lock off this topic and hopefully allow the processes of democracy and good employment practices to prevail. I trust my safety to V.A.A and I am sure they would never do anything to jeopardise the trust we all place in them. If there are problems when the new scheduling comes out I am sure they will be acted on appropriately and swiftly.

Stick to your guns but donÕt go pulling any triggers ore someone may get shot in the foot.[V]

If i had started this thread i'd take the hint & delete it. As mentioned VS management do more than just monitor these sights (pprune was previously a favourite!!), some of the comments concerning safety are highly unprofessional. The flight deck & cabin crews are a professional bunch of ladies & gents & want a safe flight for all the v-flyers & other passengers. This new JFK roster is a way of increasing flexability & profitability but NOT at the cost of safety.

Ok then folks, looks like this one's run its course and further to requests in the thread, it's getting locked.
