Each Christmas my kids and i go to Florida and relax in the sun.

I had a bit of a brainwave and have decided im going to go over for 4 weeks during summer instead. It is excruciatingly expensive so am wondering if anyone can lend a hand.

I am happy to fly from any UK Airport to any US airport. The earliest i could go would be 21st July and the latest i could return would be 2 September.

I am not expecting someone to go and find me a flight (you can pay for it if you like though [oo])

But are there any cheap routes and cheap dates within my scope? The cheapest i have found so far is approx 500 each return. Since the price difference these days between airlines is minimal (during summer) i would much rather fly VS since im FC member.

Any ideas?

Cheapest to ANY US airport in that date range would be £314 inc. taxes, July 31st with Air India, direct to New York.

But I guess that's probably not the answer you want to hear... [;)]

Zoom puts Fort Lauderdale on the map with introduction of direct non-stop low-cost flights

Zoom Airlines, the leading low-fare transatlantic airline, has announced that it will be operating a new route from London Gatwick to Fort Lauderdale in Florida for 2008.

From May next year, Zoom will offer flights from London Gatwick to Fort Lauderdale in Florida, being the first scheduled airline in 10 years to offer flights from any European airport to the sunshine resort.

Zoom will be introducing a twice weekly service from Gatwick with flights departing on Thursdays and Sundays. Fares start at £399 return including all taxes and charges.

Have you looked at Travelcity Direct for a flydrive? You may have to call them for a price for that length of time

No need, the plane will go tech so they may as well book for 2 weeks and they'll end up being stuck there for 4 weeks anyway [:p]

I think TCD use XL Airways A330/B767 A/C for all their flights now.

Ran a quick check on the website and it would appear that the £399 fare does not apply in July / August when the price rises to £579.

Personally if you have found something around the £500 mark I'd go with it. You may find something cheaper later but it is unlikely to be on VS into Florida during late July and August.

As Paul says AI into NY is normally a cheap option and you can currently pick up an NYC-MCO return for around £115.

Best of Luck.

If I remembered correctly VS did a sale in June last year for the summer months. I remember I paid £80 more for Aug dep to NYC before the sale fare was released as I booked in April.

In the past I have noticed in the fine print of a sale something along the lines of sale prices not valid if the outbound & return are 30 days apart or more. Since you are talking about going away for 4 weeks I thought I would mention it. This way, if there is a sale you might want to focus on making sure you pick dates just under 30 days apart.
