Hello everyone,

This isn't really a question, just an observation that I find really surprising!

I've booked to fly to New York in December for a spot of pre-Christmas shopping. We're going out on the VS3 in 115 days and back on the VS2 a few days later, PE both ways.

However, both of these flights are almost full in PE, already! According to the Manage My Booking seat map, there are only 7 seats to choose from on the way out and 10 on the way back.

I don't mind a busy flight but I'm hoping we won't lose the seats that we've chosen.

Really looking forward to it though!

Yup, pre-Christmas shopping in NYC is VERY popular. Dont forget that only a percentage of the seats are available to pre-book so there will really be more free seats than the seatmap will show but yes I expect these flights to be popular.

Thanks,
Sarah

Christime time is the busiest times to be travelling. Flights to the southern hemisphere book up as soon as the flights are released. NY also a big Christmas shopping destination and fill up very quickly.

Enjoy your time and hope it snows to make it that more special.

You really picked the wrong day!
Seats booked~:
30/11/2009 2
01/12/2009 10
02/12/2009 4
03/12/2009 22
04/12/2009 28
05/12/2009 4
06/12/2009 8

Fly a day earlier or day later and VS3 is almost empty.
Same on VS2 - 8/12/9 - 2 seats only booked
9/12/9 - No seats booked!

Shows the advantage of using expertflyer before booking ;-)

Hi Kaz

Ultimately VS have the fallback position that (a) seat assigments are requests only and (b) even if you've done on line check in 24 hours before they can change your seats 'for operational reasons'.
However, it's very unlikely you'll lose the seats, unless there's an aircraft change, but just to be on the safe side keep checking.

Wow!!! Unfortunately due to other commitments those were the only days we could do. And coming back on the 7th, by the way.

Agree with your point re Expertflyer but I think we must have been the first to book as the whole cabin was available to choose from then.

Paul - thanks, I was aware of this. I have been looking at it every few days, only 114 days of checking to go!

Thanks for the info though.

From experience, only a certain percentage of seats are available before OLCI becomes available. You might find that 24h before there are more seats you can choose from.
