I've noticed that UC passengers use the Air New Zealand lounge when travelling from LA. Anyone here used it and, if so, what do you think of it? Does it provide comp food (I used the Delta one in MCO and there was no real food available - awful!) How does it compare to the clubhouse in general?

Last time I used it was a couple of years ago but it was very good. There was a cold buffet, showers and you could 'pirate' the wi-fi from next door. OK, it's no CH but more than adequate.

My tip would be, check-in early O(as it's usually a scrum) then head over to the Encounter building for a cocktail. Return to the lounge with a couple of hours left.

Sounds like a plan - many thanks Darren!

There's a bit of a review of the ANZ lounge here.

It's pretty good, not a patch on the LHR Clubhouse of course, but still decent. There is food but it's very limited - mainly salad, soup, bread, selection of cheese/ham etc.. sometimes they'll bring round some hot food but it's very ad-hoc. As mentioned before the Encounter is another option (although currently under some pretty heavy construction ?), or one of the fast food places downstairs if you don't care that much :)

The lounge area is very light and airy, and large enough to mean there is always somewhere to sit in the comfy chairs and relax. It's far better IMO than the Air Canada lounge next door that Virgin used to share with.

There is free wifi available - you need a code from the front desk.

It's a lovely lounge, very calm and relaxing, a lot like NZ itself.

The buffet food provided is of a higher standard than most lounges, and is really nice.

People need to remember how utterly spoiled we are by the full menu offerings and table service we're lucky to get at VS Clubhouses.

The wifi is free, as someone else said, and it is usually very reliable.

I s econd Mike's comments, my latest visit was four weeks ago and as usual:

- nice staff
- airy and spacious - I like the muted greys and general standard of furnishings
- lovely runway views and you can feel the take off of some larger jets which always tickles me
- many PCs rarely all used, the #1 always sits at them and never comments unfavourably - I use the free WiFi
- very nice selection of NZ wines - usually 3/4 reds and whites plus sparklers and all the usual spirits
- yes the food is limited, but at nicely presented and usually tasty
- showers
- celeb spotting sometimes

Enjoy!

I was there last Thursday between 1730 and 2145.
Nice place to wait for a flight.
Large airy and good runway views.

I have only been in HK CH. I personally prefer the buffet style. Good snacks and even crisps. Great selection of NZ wines. Showers nice. Free wifi.

It was quiet when we arrived and slowly got quite busy - but then went very quiet again - we were on the last ANZ flight out. Liked that they came round and offered drinks and cakes whilst it was busy.

For ambience I would rate it better than the HK CH.

...and lest we forget--this lounge offers huge glass windows offering the sun setting over the Hollywood Hills, major celeb spotting, some excellent NZ wines and nice rounds of served appetizers like fat, fresh NZ green lipped mussels. Our NZ FSM made the rounds introducing herself and greeted us by name when we boarded. Quite looking forward to a bit of the same next week but also trying to convince the other half to spend a chunk of our layover at the beach--returning to a good shower and a cold sauvignon blanc.

cheers,
RR

Do you get automatically offered an invite to the lounge when checking in UC - as it isn't a VS lounge??? Or do I need to ask?

If you're UC or FC Au, your agent should automatically offer you and invite.

On the off chance that they don't, then usually a 'where is the lounge here?' is a nice way of prompting.

We thought this was a pretty good lounge and the food and wine offerings pretty good too. I loved watching the electric blinds going up and down in the evening sunshine.
