I have hit my GC renewal 30 point target in 8 months, and if I understand right, my renewal happens immediately, and another 12 month cycle starts immediately. huh, why?

seems wrong if so. If I have a 12 month GC status, then renewal should result in another 12months from the END of that, regardless of when I hit the 30 point requirement, surely? otherwise, I would get it to 28 or 29 points, then go fly elsewhere, to stall GC membership renewal from triggering too soon.

surely VS can't want the GC customers to feel short changed, or encourage them to fly elsewhere to avoid triggering their membership renewal too early - very counter productive!

If I've misunderstood - then apologies, but my VS account seems to imply this somewhat unfair basis.

Nope, any additional tier points will continue to accrue for your year, so you could end up with 40, 60 or 100 TPS in your Gold year that will be lost at the end of the year.

Thanks,

thanks, but the point I'm having difficulty over is: does my new GC year start the very month I hit 30 points, or stay the same month it was originally regardless of how early I reach the points required?
In other words, have I hastened it, triggering a new 30 point count, by reaching the trigger point 4 months early? or do just the next 4 months count for nothing (except miles) which is kind of fine by me!

No, it's ok, it just means that you have met your renewal requirements for the following year. Yup, Tier Points post the 30 required for renewal won't count for anything, unless you get over 100 odd, in which case there are some other 'unoffical' hush hush levels! [:w]

That is the same for most airlines, you can accrue more points than you actually need and therefore you end up with points that are 'wasted'
