Why dont you check out the relevant travel websites avaiable to you ? [:?] That would give you the up to date information.

This cold spell has hit ALL of Europe and not just the UK.

There has even been sever weather in the US and Canada - much worse than normal.

Have a read of this :

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8448095.stm

And closer to you in Florida

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8448844.stm

Yes they do seam to cope better on the continent.

I know this sounds silly but they really do get a different type of snow over there - cold, powdery and dry but due to our geography our snow is warm, wet and clumpy. They also get more constant winter weather whereas we get ups and downs.

They may also be prepared to invest more in snow equipment because they know it will get used. As we dont get very hard winters very often the investment is often not really worth it. I recall in previous years reports in the press about money wasted because salt / grit had been bought by a council but not used! No thanks for good planning just kniocking copy.

MY dad was a councillor in the north east in the early 80's and there was some severe weather. The opposition was all over the local paper and radio demanding new equipment etc but when it came to allocating the funds they voted against using the 'it wont get used very often so its a waste' argument.

Am not making a political point but it IS something councils have to wrestle with. Whatever they do they will get it in the nect from someone.

Anyway looks like you are getting home soonish so have a safe trip.

Tonty [y] [oo]

Exactly the point I've been making on other forums. All shouting about how much tax they pay and why the lane in Little Boring should be gritted before the M4.

So UC meals are made from British snow?

Not so sure our snow could be classed as warm but wet & clumpy is correct.

Just an FYI.

I just checked on all the VS flights that are in the air right now, VS 75 is in the air just leaving Northern Ireland heading towards MCO, so fingers crossed things are starting to return to normal and the stranded pax can be helped.

I was on to the Premier team last night and in the course of the conversation I was told that VS had to send a rescue plane to Havana otherwise the pax there would not be able to return for a week

Yes it left LHR on Thursday afternoon as VS163P! [:D]

I know lots of people in VS have put themselves out during the recent week - the serious weather situation hitting the Northern Hemisphere has placed a lot of strain on all airlines as a result of airports being overwhelmed (for example Tampa Airport had to shut the other morning as they simply do not have de-icing equipment[:0])

So do give a thought for those who are going the extra mile (and travelling in very difficult circumstances) to keep VS flying

Wow. Mine too now.

Looking out of my bedroom window I often see aircraft heading west. Now I can see who and where to.
[y]

Does this make me look sad?

Ok, I have been playing with it for a while, for some reason it seems very euro based, try doing a search for Southwest or Jetblue.

The little green and yellow dots on the map, I assume, will be the SBS-1 antenna sites that feed data into the web application, green ones being 'up' and yellow ones being 'not sure if it's up, not getting data' or something.

There doesn't seem to be that many SBS-1 sites outside of Europe that feed data to the app.

The dots are Airnav RadarBoxs. At the moment not too many around but increasing rapidly over the last year and now being sold in the US (cheaper than here [:(!] ) More detail in the manual.
I am just waiting for the 3D system to come out this month.[y]

For Sealink there is an equivalent Shiptrax [8D]

HL - the problem looking out your window is that there is a 5 minute delay on the on-line system [n] - but not on the live box [y][^]

For Pete - this might be interesting. [8D][8D] [:w]

Spent some time over the weekend on RaderVirtuel and it's very good.

As for the 'Pete' thing, that looks a very interesting addition.[y]

Not sure what the bandwidth issues would be but it could be very good for the restricted section. Perhaps VIR only in unrestricted.
