I'm going to be travelling on my first Virgin (and PE) flight in March (LGW - MBJ) and understand that the PE cabin is the old red cloth seating rather than the new purple leather. I'm not too bothered aboout this as having read some of the TR's for PE out of LGW (and MAN/GLA) it seems that most seem to prefer being in the bubble rather than having the leather seats.

What I haven't been able to establish is whether the PE seats on LGW 744s have got power points for laptops, and if so what sort of adaptor I should get as the VS website says that they are not being sold on-board at the moment. (It's an HP laptop if that matters).

Unfortunately not - only power on seats out of LGW/MAN/GLA is in upper.

IMO opinion the bubble is FAR superior to a) the lower section on a 747 and b) the PE leather on a 340.

if you choose the right seat it can be nearly as good as UC . and the service is very good.
