From 1 March passengers wishing to Check In Chill out will now be charged $10

VH passengers will be given a complimentary Check In Chill Out voucher as part of their holiday package.

Upper Class and FC Gold will still be free of charge.

Not the greatest news, another cut to service and a new revenue stream for VS. Also really short notice on this and there is nothing about honouring the free service for customers who booked before this news came out.

Makes it the same 'deal' as Downtown Disney Check-in over in Orlando then. I'd happily pay the $10 to use DTD check-in if I was not in UC - can only assume that Check in Chill Out is just as convenient?

Available in certain Caribbean resorts, allows you to check in at your hotel so you get longer at the hotel rather than spending time in the airport.

Check in Chill out is available at some (if not all) Carribean resorts. You complete check in at your hotel, your luggage is whisked off to the airport and you spend the rest of your time chilling out in the hotel pool or bar etc before leaving for your flight home.
Good value even at $10 charge if you ask me.

A wandering band of VS employees pitch up at your hotel, check you in, dispense boarding cards and take your luggage away. The theory is more time at the beach / pool, less time at the check in. In my experience it just shifts the amount of time you spend checking from time at the airport to time sat in a hotel lobby.

That's pretty much it - you'd look daft sitting on the beach/by the pool fully clothed ready for a flight as well as getting rather hot rather quickly!

Suppose if you like the food in a particular restaurant in the resort it gives you time to have one last meal, which is one upside if my experience with airport catering is anything to go by.

Pretty bad deal if you ask me. When we were in Barbados, we said we didn't want to do it but were then told we had to as we wouldn't be able to take out luggage on the coach to the airport. Only way to get round it was to make our own way to the airport, but as we had already paid for transfers seemed a bit pointless.

And sitting on the beach in Barbados dressed prepared for a typical UK early morning in November wasn't much fun...

I've booked private departure transfers to the airport. Does anyone know if they will still try and force me to do Check In Chill Out?

Like the majority, I'm not looking forward to sweating the proverbials off in clothes ready for English weather!

As did we. What I meant was I don't think in total it saves any time, it just shifts it, particularly if you're in PE or UC. In our experience it took just as long to use the Check In Chill Out at the hotel as it would have done to use the regular check in at the airport, as there were 4 or 5 groups to be dealt with.

Edited to Add: perhaps though I'm being unfair and this is actually one of those schemes that does produce a greater good in that it takes pressure off at the airport..so the fact it takes the same time at the hotel as at the airport is actually because the service is reducing the demands at the latter.
