Does anybody know what is happening with the EWR facility ? There has been a gradual but noticable reduction in the quality of the space to a point where earlier this week it was dirty, the furniture is very tired and stainned, the chef who used to cook fresh meals after 18.45 was not there and the buffet style food was very bland.

I realise that not all the spaces can be shiny and new but either this is just about ready for a major overhaul or they are looking to phase it out ?

I have not been to EWR for quite a while, but my guess is that, if standards have dropped, it is because of the massive budget cuts that (just about) every department at VS has suffered in the name of keeping the company from becoming a recession victim.

There was talk of refurbishing/relocating the Clubhouse although last year when I was using it the staff there didn't know if or when it was going ahead. Maybe that plan is being taken of the shelf? [:?]

I didn't notice the same on my latest visit a few weeks ago - I've always liked the Newark Clubhouse ...

Back in late 2008 it was announced that a new clubhouse would be built at EWR, air side and with windows (oooooh!). But that fell victim of the recession.

I was at a Virgin wine tasting at Berry Brothers this week and Paul something (VS Sales and Marketing chief) did a little speech forewarning that prices will rise and availability will be more restricted this year - VS is seeing a notable increase in bookings ... hope that some of the inflowing cash will put the EWR project back on.

It does make you wonder why they went ahead with the LGW refit then.

I just checked the prices for a UC ticket, at random dates they are up about $500rt over last year, however, with that said last years fares were nothing amazing, pretty much the same as they have been for a while.
