Just a bit confused right now, been looking at MAN to MCO in UC with points, several months I have no problem geting a flight out but no return flights... any idea how VS allocate their seats as I cant imagine that people are booking one way flights
There really is not set system. Miles seats are decided by revenue management on they base it on numerous different reasons. It won't be that people are booking one way rewards just that seats arent available on every flight and when they are they are very limited in the number on each flight. They do exist as I know of members on here who have booked full round trip rewards.
If you do a dummy booking and there are no seats on the day you want, the system usually displays a calendar with the dates where there is availability.
It is possible to get a G as I did a for my NYC trip a couple of weeks ago. I just needed to be flexible by a day.
Though MAN-MCO is a popular route and with only a small UC cabin it is harder to get reqard seats.

Huzzah for International Jet-setting !
G returns MCO-MAN are very few and far between. With regard to general availability of UC tickets on this route, I always want a UC flight back so that I can get some sleep and go straight to work from the airport when I arrive in Manchester. But going out PE (especially upstairs) is okay; UC is far better in my opinion, but for the outbound leg PE will suffice. I suspect I'm not alone in this, and so this may account for the very limited availability of UC MCO-MAN tickets.
I managed to get 2 MAN-MCO returns for this May (8 weeks to go, not counting or anything!) back in late September. At the time, just about every day in May was showing as available for the outbound leg, with a slightly more restricted choice for the inbound.
I've just looked on the VS website and there are still a lot of available dates for reward G tickets MAN-MCO in May, but nothing for the return leg.
I think the general advice has to be that when you are planning a trip & want reward tickets in G class, then check the VS website often (or call Flying Club) and be flexible with your dates. As soon as you see G fares on dates you're happy with, book them.
