Virgin's website says to check back another day as reward seats often become availabel nearer to departure. Can anyone confirm whether they have experienced this happening, particularly with UC seats becoming available closer to departure date?

Yup - happens all the time.

It's worth checking to see how busy the flights your after are, using Expert Flyer (check your profile page for the free queries codes), and if they aren't too busy, chances are revenue management at VS will eventually release more to the reward pool.

hi Areolaw and welcome to V-Flyer

Yes, it can be that as the date of the flight draws nearer and VS has not managed to see all the seats, they then open them for Rewards - more often than not in the week before the flight.

However the BA strike has had a knock on effect on recent Reward availability and should your plans be around a BA strike then the likelihood of Rewards becoming available at the last moment is pretty remote

Thanks Pete and Buns for the quick replies. I'll keep my fingers crossed. The flight I was after had plenty of seats until they switched equipment from a 744 to A340 (schedule shows a 300 but seat map is a 600). I was able to get PE, but was hoping for UC. The flight is in July so I'm hoping BA will have their problems sorted out by then, but it doesn't look promising for them.
