Made a dumbing booking for a flight to MCO, seen fare, got fare prices up , all looks fine.

In the meantime, go and book US domestic connections on the back of this flight. Then back to VS site to confirm booking, re-enter booking wants, to ensure page hadn't timed out..all still there at expected £x price, click to confirm; "this flight is unavailable, please select another flight" :0

Ring VS reservations, " oh beleive website is down at present, the fare you have showing is now unavailable, its now..xxx..."approx £500 more :0 v(
Sorry but the site, is working up till booking confirmation stage and doesn't appear to be "down"....Not impressed. n(

Luckily the internal WN fare was readily changeable to the day before (luckily the VS fare was still at "quoted" better price), but maybe a warning for others.. nothing confirmed till confirmed...

Would be interesting to now how the fare quotes being displayed live online stand in terms of consumer rights..

This is one of the reasons why I still make all my bookings on the phone with VS. I always call, get the flight reserved then I know exactly what is what. Despite them trying to push everything online, I just don't have enough confidence when spending so much money.

It seems there are always issues with the VA online system not matching what is actually available, something else they need to sort out!

Glad you managed to get sorted but I would certainly be writing to VS about this.

hi northernhenry

this is an interesting situation as i booked a holiday through virgin holidays over the net, same problem got a price tried to book no joy... then rang up to find price up by £300.. after heated arguement got the price back down stating that if it wasnt for their tech fault i would have booked there and then, but also managed to get further good will discount for inconvienience, so paid off to argue the toss in the end.

There seems to be a lot of problems on the VS website. A guy on FB has posted this which seems to mirror your experiences and there are problems as evinced in another thread about flights disappearing from the Manage My Booking page

Always frustrating when you have to pay more than quoted.
Flying Club Gold Team recently quoted me for 2 L fares that i could upgrade to G which were available. I checked that the extra taxes were included and were told they were and the price was full inclusive. I held both of these for 48 hours whilst wife checked dates at work then phoned back to confirm. When i was told there was an increase of nearly £150 on each ticket which i questioned. Then spoke to a supervisor who confirmed extra taxes had not been included!!!
Complained and was told there was nothing they could do and until payment was made that the fare was not confirmed....
Not happy at all.
I wonder what would have happened if i had tried to pay when i was initially quoted?

Right now we are looking at 4-6 months before it gets fixed.

Sounds like we're all heading towards the inevitable 20 min wait on the VS phone lines for anything relating to bookings, prices and availability :?

They might actually see "unusually high call numbers" for once..

On FB they say it'll be fixed by April ... I'll be surprised!
