I recently managed to get FC Silver with a return Ecomony flight to EWR. I was on 12 points prior to that return flight and earned 4 points on it - which should have taken me to 16, hwoever according to the VS website I seem to have lost the last point as my count has reset to zero - is that what happens on transition. I was kind of hoping that would mean just 9 points to retain silver, but it says the full 10 are needed.

Yes, your points are reset when you hit silver.

The tier points system is quite well explained on the VS website - here.

There was an even better explanation on the old site provided by our own Richard Mannion on the old site, but I can't find it now.

I thought TPs get reset on Au not Ag? Surely what's happened is the year has expired.

WHEN DO TIER POINTS EXPIRE?
When considering tier upgrades, tier points are valid for a full 12-13 months. But the great news is that your tier points used to fly up through the tiers don't reset when you achieve Flying Club Silver, so if you're quick enough, some of those same tier points could get you all the way to Gold membership

Interesting - they don't reset when you are going for gold, but we were talking about retaining silver, and they do reset to zero for requalification - unless anyone can find T&C to the contrary. :D

I've recently gone from red to silver and my tier points were reset. The way things have panned out with work is that I'll have got my ten points to ensure a 2nd year of silver by the end of July with a return to Tokyo, but then with two more return flights to NYC in August I'll only be four points away from gold....

With me when I transitioned from Red to Silver I expected to see I was still one Tier point in credit, but they reset to 0 on obtaining silver, thoguh there isn't a transaction as such showing that.

However they so show I need 24 to obtain gold.

All of the current tier points I have have eben acquired int he last 6 months so none have expired yet.

Bad form to quote oneself, but I've made an error their haven't I?

Need 24 points for gold - ten points in July for return to Tokyo. two return trips to NYC in August makes another 20 points, so 30 in total. Which means Gold be the end of August!

How many points in one year do you need to maintain gold?
