Reading what eejp1007 wrote here (I've quoted below for simplicity)

On non-refundable tickets the fuel surcharge is now also non-refundable.
This means that an economy ticket will usually only get about GBP90 of tax back (less if your travel agent charges an admin fee to do it)


How is this fair? Surely this makes the fuel surcharge part of the ticket and not a penalty to the airline due to your weight etc necessitating extra fuel?

Exactly our point! If the fuel surcharge is governed by the ticket restrictions then surely it is part of the ticket price and not an extra tax.

This is the same policy as Finnair (who were the first to do this), Air France/KLM and BA and it stinks!
