Looking at using some of my miles later in the year for a flight in UC from NYC to LHR.
Availability wise, the day I wanted to return, Tuesday, has a flight from Newark but nothing from JFK.
The following day, there is availability from JFK.

I've read a little about the clubhouses and JFK seems to be the better of the two, although there is a little disagreement regarding service etc.
But is there any real difference between the aircraft used? i.e 767, 747, sleeper flights, VPort etc.

Ideally, the best experience would be from LHR to take advantage of the clubhouse there, but that can wait for another time.
Therefore, I want the best experience I can get since it will be my first time in UC.

Revivals:
Can I pop in for breakfast even though I've eaten on the plane?

Well for starters you won't be on a 767 since VS doesn't fly them. It will be either a 747 or a 346 or if you take the day flight from EWR, a 343

The JFK Clubhouse is stunning with views over the tarmac but it is small and open to the airport so you can hear airport announcements. It also can get very busy especially if you arrive early for the VS10 and the VS4 and VS46 haven't yet left and on my last visit there the service was a little bit haphazard. I have only visited the EWR Clubhouse once but I liked it. The down side is that it has no windows and therefore no views but it is homely and almost like sitting in someone's front room and the staff circulate constantly

With regard to the aircraft, on the 346s and 747s V-Port is the IFE system. There is only one 343 with V-Port and it is hit and miss if you will get that one. All the evening flights from EWR and JFK have the snooze zone and the God Night Flight service

With regard to 346 v 747, I don't want to start a Boeing v Airbus debate which has been done to the death in the past. It is all a question of personal preference and each aircraft has its own particular good and bad points. The majority of flights between NYC and LHR are in 346s and a lot will depend on which flight times suit you best

I have always been a EWR fan - the clubhouse at JFK is larger, brighter and has better facilities - but EWR wins for me because while the clubhouse is smaller, and darker as noted, the food is consistently better for pre flight dining, and the service is normally excellent, the second reason that EWR simply doesn't have the taxiing delays prevalent at JFK.

As for 346 v 747 in two words: 346 = quieter, 747 = more space.

I think all in its 6 of one and 1/2 a dozen of the other, only practice will tell which you prefer, time to start saving more miles ): .

It doesn't! I thought all overnight flights from the east coast had it. Ah well, I stand corrected

Slinky, you're right re the taxi issues at JFK but I've found the service at both consistently good. For me it's just that jfk is easier to get to from Manhattan. The train out to ewr isn't bad but still longer than I have if trying to get out after work...

I'd base your decision on which airport suits your travel plans best - flight times / ease of access and other preferences rather than on the CH.

One further thing regarding the EWR clubhouse.
How does the food service work? Is it just a matter of sitting down somewhere and someone takes an order from you like in a restaurant, or do you help yourself or what?
Is there a limit to what you can eat? May be tempted to try a few things if possible.

It's all set out near the bar area and you go and help yourself and yes you can eat all you want.

The dessert trolley is wheeled around the CH a couple of times by one of the staff members and then left near the bar for people to help themselves.

Drinks wise there is table service or you can go and sit at the bar.

They also tell you when the food service will begin as another airline shares the lounge but is due to leave just before/as VS check-in opens. They wait till these passengers are gone before the buffet is set up. I like the serve yourself option very much and the food has always been good
