Okay, doing some test bookings for 2011, ahead of honeymoon same period 2012... and rather concerned.

Can't find a B/L or S seat return to san fran in 2011 April -> July period.

Need an upgradable econ seat ideally to allow us to use miles for 2 of us to upgrade to upper.... But with a Y at 1600/each, its looking not good for that.

Do virgin still offer the cheaper "upgradable" economy fares, last time I checked as looking at 1200 for both of us, which is a reasonable £750 each for upper class when you add the upgrade taxes and my 120K miles?

Anyone else with a clue as to why Virgin not appear to be allowing booking of B/L fares (S fares face same issue).

Sometimes the website doesn't show the specific fare code seats, even though they are there. Try this search engine on the VS site (if you aren't already using it), but if that still doesn't work then just give VS a call and get them to give you some prices. You can be almost certain if there are low fare codes available (O/N/X/Q) then there will be L's there too.

Yeah, been trying the linked search engine, its just showing nothing but Y's.... when specifically searching for the cheaper fare codes. Was wondering if it was broken - it is most annoying!

It's just not easy to book online with VS if you have specific needs - call, always call, even if you aren't Au and can't get to the premier team. And most likely if you do a search online and find reward availability you can call the Upper class number (which used to put you though to the Premier team) and ask to book an upgradeable fare & upgrade on the spot, they should take care of you. Was always a very pleasant experience for me.
