Out of curiosity: Why are the light bites and scrambled eggs & bacon on some flights but not others?

They're the shorter flights to/from the east coast of America

In other words, VS doesn't think that people traveling from the West coast need a real breakfast after a 10 hour flight.......

Yet again, totally underwhelmed by the menu, so what's that, 2 I liked and 2 I didn't in the last year ?

Err the full breakfast is served on the West Coast flights, it's just the short East Coast flights that don't have the full breakfast offered.

VS say they have the policy of "Freedom Dining" - eat what you want, when you want. As I often don't fancy eating from the dinner menu on my way back from MCO I have suddenly wondered if I could order the lighter option of scrambled egg and bacon from the breakfast menu before I try to sleep. Has anyone please ever tried this ?

I don't see why not - as long as its offered on your flight of course (not au fait with the florida flight nos).

Earlier this year on VS1 I said it seamed a bit funny to be offered 'dinner' at 5.00PM ish and the crew said I could have the afternoon tea now and dinner later if I wanted.

Having sampled the new UC menu on the VS15 on Wednesday I can say I was pretty impressed with most of it.

As I mentioned on another thread, the fish starter was particularly small and took longer to read than eat, it was very tasty though.

I had the Beef Wellington, again nice but maybe a little dry - needed a bit more jus. It was a large plateful for those with big appetites.

I particularly liked the oatcakes and damson wafers that came with the cheese.

Strangely, if you google any of the red wines, not one of them comes up (excepy for the mention here); are they choosing wines that are really SO rare/odd??? Haven't tried googling the whites...

You're right, there doesn't seem to be much information about these wines. Berry Brothers and Rudd seem to have a few other wines from the same wineries, and I remember seeing somewhere that they are the suppliers to VA.

So my guess is that they are wines that are sourced exclusively for VA by BBR - which doesn't make them exclusive in terms of price/quality! Most of them seem to fit into the £6 - £8 bracket, and that has been my experience on the (very limited) times when I've been in Upper.

The Ivy has what appears to be a version of the Viognier as wine of the month on their website.

Well sounds like it might be a good substitute for a starter, even if tiny...

Apologies for throwing this in here but it didn't seem worth starting a whole new thread for: The OH and I are flying back from LA in a couple of weeks on the 24, which leaves the west coast at 21.10 and lands at 15.50 the next day. Given the late departure and the mid afternoon arrival, is the in-flight schedule still dinner and breakfast?

I've never done the later departure, so we're trying to work out how to plan eating before the flight.
