Hey guys,

I need your help here!
I purchased this return ticket from HKG to SYD - 2 for 1 offer promotion back in April 10.
Our return flight is in December 2010.
I previously was told when purchasing the ticket that we need to take the flight together on the same flight and on the same day.

When I called the Sydney office yesterday I was told if I want to upgrade then it will cost me $148 to PE and both of us need to upgrade too. We cannot upgrade one person as we both need to be in the same cabin as well.

Then when i called in the SYdney office today, then I was told its $148 for myself only, so I said yes and the lady took my credit card details and its all approved and gave me the new ref# as well.

Now, my question is..under the Terms & conditions as the lady advised yesterday we need to be in the same cabin, so will the ticketing department decline my request to upgrade to PE?

Another thing that I find funny with Virgin Atlantic is that when I called the UK office they told me to upgrade myself only will cost 219 pounds (I re-confirmed with him that its for 1 person, 2 person will be $438 pounds) but the SYdney office says $148 Australian dollars...

by the way, can someone tell me if this is a good offer from Virgin? $148 Australian dollars to upgrade to PE and also if anyone can check for me if the flights is full on 17th Dec from SYD to HKG for economy and PE?

If I were sucessfully upgraded to PE, can someone also tell me the best seat I should get on that flight too?

Thanks heaps!

Hey guys

Just an update, I received the E-ticket for myself in the PE.

Would still like to know the best seat in PE and if I would have any chances getting "free upgrade" to upper class as I was told by the lady today there is only 2 more seats in PE but plenty in Upper class

I'd say that $148 is a great price for the upgrade. Well done.

On December 17th VS201 looks jammed in economy but open in Upper Class and PE, perhaps why you got the great upgrade price:

As for seats, check out the ratings on this site here! You cannot request row 18 online, these are allocated by VS or on check-in (always worth asking) and I think row 19 is missing a window.

Probbaly zero (sorry to be blunt).

VS (to loud complaints from some but praise from others) has a strict pecking order as to upgrades and who gets them. It includes factoring in Flying Club Status and how much you paid for your ticket.

Even then it only offeres free upgrades if it needs to e.g. if it has overbooked the economy cabin it may bring people in to PE then move PE into UC.

Just because there is space in UC does not automatically mean upgrades. I travelled on a VS 747 where the UC cabin was 2/3rds empty and another v-flyer was the only pax in a UC cabin with 14 seats despite it been quite full down the back.
