Am booked on the VS250 this Weds to PVG in UC
Seat map is showing as a A340-300

However when I checked the "which aircraft" link, none of the A340-300 have flown to Shanghai

Is this a mistake? Hoping so as I believe the IFE is not VPORT on this aircraft?

Also have been put in seat 14A - am the only passenger in the mini cabin, is this good or bad???

Thanks!!!

re 14A

Seatguru says
the proximity of the galley may be bothersome. Some prefer the quite and private feel of this mini-cabin.

Seatexpert says

+ extra storage
- extra traffic area

I think the extra traffic is due to the galley servicing the PE cabin so there will be lots of staff movements etc

Personally I would try and move in to the front cabin but others may differ

Thanks!

What surprises me is that an A340-300 doesnt seem to have flown this route for months... according to what I can see on which aircraft page??

Also the IFE - is it VPORT? If not should I bring a DVD player!!

Only one 343 has V-Port which is G-VSUN. The other 343's are fitted with Odyssey and If you check one of my other threads, you will find the current IFE listings.

5 of VS's 6 340-300's (G-VELD, G-VFAR, G-VHOL, G-VSEA,& V-VAIR) have the Odyssey system. one G-VSUN has V-port, odyssey is not too bad but it might be worth a portable DVD player and hope for G-VSUN

Thanks everyone!

Im still hoping its a mistake :D

Is the A340-300 normally now being used on this route? Has always been the 600 when I have been on it previously?

It's probably not a mistake.

VS do seem to be streamlining their routes and A/C usage much more now, especially over the winter season based on pax/cargo loads.

Certain VS19/20 flights are now also now using a 343 instead of a 346.

I'd definitely take a laptop or DVD player or iPad - the quality of Odyssey on the A343s is abysmal.

Also, do move to the front cabin, the rear UC cabin is nice and compact, but you do get a lot of service going back into the PE cabin (and pesky PE-ers coming forward to use the UC loos), and I find it less spacious because it has central overhead bins unlike the front cabin (and all A346s, it gives and extra feeling of height and space when they're removed).

A340-300 does sometimes ply the route but you're correct it's quite rare. You'd think the cargo coming up to Christmas would justify the 600 on its own. On the plus side the 300 is supposed to be even quieter than the quiet 600. So it should be many times better than the earache inducing 744.

Oh yes indeed :) I couldn't believe my luck!!

Very empty flight, only 107 pax.

The 3 row mini UC cabin was left totally empty (the three people in there were moved to the front)

Only downside was a crying baby for first three hours of the flight (did wonder why they didn't move the mum and baby in the empty mini cabin!). They ended up giving baby its own UC seat and he seemed much more content :)

All in all a good result :) :) :)

Nice - I can beat that, 95 PAX on an A346 from PVG 2 years ago. We all were crammed into the back to help get the nose up.

I once done a PVG home with about 40 people on the aircraft. It really does seem to be a route where the flight is either full or empty - never inbetween! :)
