I have the opportunity to do a bit of work in San Diego next September based in Coronado. I have oodles of VS miles and would be keen to use some so I am keen to fly with Virgin. At present there are Gs available.

I will have limited time and will not be able to do more than one night in LA either on arrival or before departure but this would not be my ideal.

Is there a decent connection service from LAX? Would I be better going overland from LAX (naturally I will not want to drive after a UC flight) - and if so how to do it?
Or is SFO and transfer to San Diego a better option?

O Masters (and Mistresses) of travel - please help me

I'd suggest VS to San Francisco, then VX/Virgin America to San Diego, miles schemes now linked too! VX are great, especially if you bag a $50 upgrade to First Class a few hours before the flight :-)

Alternatively BA fly direct from the spring, not sure exact date.

I go to San Diego a few times a year for work and will cetainly re-use the BA service. Being the only international flight into San Diego it is a marvellous experience in terms of no standing in line anywhere, I have never been delayed due to air traffic or weather, fantastic little BA Lounge - even has a First, and the most friendly airport ever.

However in the meantime I fly via LAX - great connection service so if you get in late they will just put you on the next commuter prop. You just collect your luggage then deposit outside of customs again and off it goes.

I avoid SFO on this route as had problems in the past with weather at SFO (fog) which can mean deayed or cancelled flights which I cant afford (time wise) when on business.

Enjoy San Diego and especially Coronado - it is a real gem of a place.

Thanks for that - both of you- SFO is tempting as I haven't used VX as yet. LAX seems to be the sensible choice for someone with time constraints. I only have about 30k Ba Exec miles and don't fancy a trip that long in the rear cabin. 6' 3" doesn't fit well into a 31 inch pitch so San Diego direct is probably not for me alas.

Any of the VS west coast airports will work, though your really limited to UA for a LAX-SAN flight, out of LAS you can take WN which makes life easy and as has already been pointed out, you can take VX from SFO.

Even with the fog issue I would be tempted to go through SFO, if only to enjoy VX.
