Release dates for reward flights?

Hi, I am looking to book reward (EC + miles to UCS) out to LAX, returning from SFO next September, but cannot see any real dates available until after April/May on the system.

I always thought they released them around 11 months in advance of departure, but ringing up VA they weren't really sure, apart from 'keep checking'.

I know these go like anything very quickly, so I was wonderng, can anyone give me a steer as to when I really should 'start looking'?

There really isn't a set day/date/system for how reward flights are released. They can be released straight away when revenue seats are released and then right up until a day or two before the flight, you really just have to keep checking on a regular basis.

Also, do prepared to be flexible - trying for popular days of the week might not be a good strategy
