Anyone every had any special treatment when flying on their Birthday? Upgrades, happy birthday wishes etc.

I'm flying on my actual Birthday for the first time this year and just wondered if VS do anything special? (For me, special would be the fact that someone wishes me happy birthday using my booking data).

Just interested really..... :D

I'd expect nothing, then you're not disappointed...
Wouldn't get excited about upgrades or bottles of bubbles....chances of something are slim in the extreme....

Unless you book yourself a special treat using retail therapy you might get wished a 'happy birthday' if a member of CC spots it (one of the CC on here will know more)

As to a upgrade I think you know the answer to that one already !

I was on eurostar a few years ago and it was by birthday and jokingly asked the lady who was serving drinks and dinner (we were in leisure select) if she would give us a bottle of champers as a treat and she did !

Lol I did think the upgrade would be extremely unlikely!

I just look at it on the basis that a lot of companies use your birthday data e.g. Email discount coupons from restaurants, general happy birthday wishes etc and thought VS might do the same.

Will try the champers piece when the drinks service starts lol

Passport control and hotel check in sometimes acknowledge my birthday when they look at the passport but I haven't had any special treatment on board or room upgrades.

I usually plan a flight on my birthday, either going out or on the return, depending on what day of week it falls on. I have been acknowledged once in the last 5 years, by check-in staff, other than that, nothing

I've flown home on VS the last 2 years running on my birthday and there was nothing (not that I'd expect anything anyway)

Erm you definitely won't get an upgrade on your birthday unless you pay for it of course - that is the only way.

Onboard the only way that the crew will know that it's your birthday is if you tell them! You never know - a glass of bubbles may make its way to you but don't be disappointed if it doesn't! Alternatively, pre-order some champagne to drink during the flight which can be chilled for you after take-off.

As for immigration, I've flown twice on my birthday in recent years and they haven't even noticed - even though the arrival date and the date of birth boxes are right next to each other on our customs form. :D

Thanks for all the replies! Didn't really know what to expect as only a recent VS convert

Previously loyal to the dark side (BA), where my partner received a happy birthday and a glass of champagne in WT+ without asking, they had made note in the booking! Just wondered if VS did anything different.

Think I'll have my own champagne breakfast in NY!

IME BA cabin crew are far more likely to acknowledge celebrations aboard than VA. It is far from unsual to hear anouncemenst made over the PA on landing and bottles of champagne go down from First or Club (yes bottles not glass) for Birthdays. Then again BA bar stock seems to be fuller than VS e.g. never have I witnessed of BA closing the bar early or running out of champagne half way accross the atlantic.

When we flew to Dubai 2 years ago (UC), it was a day after my husband's 50th. I casually mentioned this to the CC who was looking after us as my husband was feeling slightly jaded (the after effects of his birthday bash!). To our astonishment as we were about to land, CC came round and presented my husband with a very nice large bottle of champagne, compliments of the pilot! y)

I'm ground staff for VS, and if i notice its someones birthday. I fill out a special service request and send it to the crew for them to get some champagne (which they agree to 100% of the time) and wish them happy birthday.
If the check in agent doesn't notice, mention it to them and they'd most likely do the same.
What flight are you on?

Aww that's the sort of thing I would do!

I'm on VS046 on my way home from JFK to LHR.

Thanks for the info.

If it does stroll over to Lafayette (1 block) then north one block to Delicatessen. It's a great place.

Sorry Rich, missed this! Thanks for the suggestion.
