Hi,
I have a T reward flight LHR to DXB next Monday,if I upgrade to Upper Class, would it cost me 60,000 miles + extra tax for the return journey or 40,000 miles + extra tax?
Economy reward LHR to DXB 40,000 miles.
Upper Class reward LHR to DXB 80,000 miles.
Economy to Upper Class upgrade 60,000 miles.
Any idea if it would be 40,000 miles (The difference between economy and upper) or 60,000 miles? :?
Also does the LHR Clubhouse menu change on 1st March?

Regards,
Daffodil

It would cost you an extra 60,000 miles. As you are booking just using miles, you need to pay the full mileage amount for whatever class of travel you want to fly. There will be the additional taxes to pay also.

The 60k economy to UC, is if you have booked an upgradeable revenue fare code and want to use miles on top of that.

Thanks,
Neil

I would of thought it would cost 40k more points, plus difference in taxes etc.
Seeing as a G costs 80k points to Dubai, so should be the difference.

There is obviously some confusion so i would suggest a call to FC to ask.

However MY understanding is it would cost you an extra 40K miles to upgrade from economy to UC on a pure reward ticket (which is what you are on) as I understand it the 60K would be if you had booked a fully flexible economy ticket and paid for it in cash. then 60K is correct.

I booked PE reward seats and upgraded them to UC and only had to pay the reward seat difference.

Of course to upgrade in any case there needs to be UC reward availability which having just done a dummy booking there is on the LHR-DXB for next monday although not sure about your return dates.

Would be interested to see exactly what FC do charge you.

If it is only 80k for a straight reward to Dubai, the of course it will be only an additional 40k, I was basing my answer on me misreading what the OP was stating and i thought it was 100k for a G to Dubai.

If you are booked a full miles economy reward and want to upgrade with miles, then you need to use the amount of miles that a full PE or UC reward would be on that route.

It will be 40,000 miles for the RT to change from T class to G class for the DXB flight, plus as you say the higher APD and also fuel charges. They will return the miles for the T and then debit the miles for the G. I've changed U's to G's before and that was how it worked. Make sure thought that making the change within 7 days of flying doesn't have an impact though - "cancellations" within 7 days don't get miles redeposited.

Sorry can't help with the menu, but the current one is the Autumn menu so must be due a change for spring - I don't think the CH menu changes as often as the onboard menu though.

Hi,
Thank you for all your replies.I like Chumba did a dummy booking and there is reward availability on the way out but not on the return (20th March) in UC or PE.I'm still not sure wether to upgrade or not or go on an adventure travelling in economy! I've only travelled in UC or PE on this route before.
Thanks again,
Daffodil

Thank you RedVee.Thats help me make up my mind.I booked the reward seats on the 25,000 miles offer.I thought that I might be able to upgrade at the airport on the day, I was unaware of the seven day rule.So it looks like an adventure in economy is now on!
PS I hope the redundancy doesn't last to long.
Kind Regards,

Thanks for the kind words, planning on taking a grown up gap year (well, until October anyway).

I think you've worked out that if you only paid 25k for your T then the difference would be 55k (80 - 25k).

You can always ask at the airport, we have known rules to go out of the window on the day IF it is in VS's interests - i.e. if they need to do operational upgrades anyway. But if it's quiet, and the availability of Gs at this late stage indicates it probably is, its unlikely.

Have a great trip, I love Dubai in early March.
