At the moment i've got 10 tier points - which in three weeks time will rise to 14. Then three weeks later - I lose them all as my "year" will have run out - which means I was only 1 tier point away from being a Silver member!

Is there a way you can preserve/buy your tier points? Just seems a little unfair!

Unfortunately you cannot buy or preserve TP's. You have a year to reach the target to move up a level, and unless you hit it, then you start again at 0 to try again next year.

To be honest Ag, really doesn't offer anything special, a few more miles but that is the only real benefit, so you aren't missing out on much.

With the FC changes Ag will earn +50% miles, so perhaps not to be sniffed at.

Don't forget it is not a strict 12 month year - it is a 13 month year so you may have time to qualify.
An alternative would be to buy one of your journeys up into a K or S class giving you an extra point. It will cost you a few hundred so depends what value you place in silver.

I currently have 10 Tier points earned from 27 May out and 7th June back in 2010.
I am now flying UC to MCO on 21 June and back on 8th July.

Will I get Silver or am I out of time? ?|

The +50% miles applies to all fare codes.

You can use the calculator in the "Your Account" section when you log into flying club. Select the month and it shows how many you need for ag.

My understanding is that it's a rolling 13 month period for red, on this basis and using the info below, your TP from June would count but not May. (ISTBC)

"Your tier points are calculated from the current date of the month to the first day of the same month a year previous. Your account will be automatically upgraded once you have achieved the required tier points for either Silver or Gold membership." quoted from the VS website http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/fr ... vingup.jsp

Your only option to earn an extra one or two TP's within the UK is to book a BMI business or fully flex economy fare either on a domestic or European route somewhere.

It's probably cheaper just to book a discounted economy VS fare to somewhere though!!

Loopy

If your trip in 3 weeks time is to the west coast of the USA, you can get a Virgin America flight from SFO or LAX for a day trip. Even a cheap $49 ticket will get you a tier point according to this - two if you do a return! You do have to fly though, you can't just buy the ticket and throw it away.

Cheers

Thanks Luke - I have tried this but it's not very explicit about which dates you need to enter.

I think I will just have to wait and see. My guess is I will have 10 to end of May. Then this will drop to 5. I will earn 5 in June and 5 in July but at the end of June I will drop 5 so I think I will still only have 10! B)
But I'm hoping someone will tell me I'm wrong! :P
