Got to South Terminal at Gatwick and went straight to twilight check in. I had asked for seat 9K in the upper class section and when I checked last night it was shown as my seat. I arrived at Gatwick 24 hours ahead of my flight tomorrow and surprise surprise my seat is marked green and the booking in chap told me that seat is unusable as the entertainment system is not working. I have been changed to 7 K, the second seat from the front of the cabin. All other seats were unavailable, so there was a flurry of late upper class bookings or passengers on Virgin holidays have been upgraded.

Yesterday when I checked there were only 4 other passengers in the cabin.

Am I right to be rather suspicious about this annoying change of seat? I rang Virgin and told them how irritated I will be if someone else is in 9K and if the entertainment system is working. Before I came onto the forum, I went on the VA website to look at the seat allocation, but I was not allowed to look at it!

So is seat 7 K alright? Seat guru says there is no overhead locker and that as the aisle is narrower, I will be rather close to seat 7A.

Any views welcome.

Whatever you may think you did not have a reserved seat.

You only requested a specific seat and VS (well any airline really) retains the right to put you in any seat it chooses for operational reasons. In your case moving you was the right thing to do or did you want a broken seat!?

I think, unless there is something specific about a particular seat which makes it undesirable, then choosing a seat is so much a matter of personal taste. Some people like to be near the bar. Some people like to be away from the galley. I would be much happier with row 7 than row 9 as I like to be near the front... but there is nothing "wrong" with either.
Enjoy your flight. Enjoy being in UC !

Don't think 7K is a bad seat, slightly less distance across the middle to 7A than there would have been between 9A and K but nothing major. 6A and K are the two right in the nose with no overhead locker. With only 7 seats down each side a change of 2 seat positions will not make a huge difference. You will be a bit further from the galley so might even be a bit quieter.

Oops my iPad is misbehaving. I am rather puzzled as to why the entertainment system could not be repaired before tomorrow's flight. We do not leave until 11.45am.

(rsponding to earlier post)

To me a seat with a broken IFE is a broken seat even though the seat itself might be 100% in working order. I'd rather VS were proactive in putting me in a fully working seat.

I imagine because the plane that will become your flight is somewhere in the air at the moment on its way to its destination and won't be back at LGW until a couple of hours before it becomes your flight.

IFE is very complicated and unless its a very simple fault they can take some time to sort out. Surely it is better they put you in a seat they know is working?
