Now that I have finally got to the bottom of the big TP debate and membership renewal dates - I have a little question....

On my next flight in 14 days time to MCO I will hit Gold again, however if I take another flight later that day within the USA that will also earn TPs, as my account will not have updated overnight will the TPs be lost or will they automatically credit into my new membership year?

Any help is welcome as I would hate to lose the points simply because my account has not updated, guess I could press the case with FC on my return if that was to be the case but keen to avoid the hassle of going through that.

Thanks

Jon

My understanding is, once you hit the renewal amount of 30 TP's, the counter resets. Any further TP earning flights will go on as normal. The trigger for rest is 30.

What are the dates of your membership year?

If your current membership ends in November, any points earned over the 30TP will just contine to accrue, until your renewal date...then everything resets to zero for your new earning year.

Oh yes - I was thinking it would reset me to Gold in July which would then become my new membership year. Indeed, Penny its November - can't remember they have accured before (but could be wrong)

So guessing the over 30TPs will simply add up to be lost in November, where I could have over 50TPs by that point. Now that throws more into the mix.... n(

Apologies but another interesting observation with the new TP system.

I was Silver but went back to Red last year because of lack of flights. In early June I had 13 TP's, achieved 3 for my last PE flight making 16 - so confirmed as Silver again. y)

However, once I achieved Silver, the calculator has been set to Zero ! What's happened to the extra 1 TP ? Anybody have any ideas ?? :(! :(!

John
I'm in the same boat as you. My year ends 30th June, so for the last couple of months I have been accruing tier points that are effectively useless. I'm up to 48 TP now so, to use the FC description, the odd 18 "will just drop off" and my counter will be reset to zero on 1st July.

You can see the wording FC used when they wrote to me in this post on renewal dates. I included their email verbatim.

@CCrunch - your point - lonely number 16 - has gone the same way - never to be seen again :(

Cheers

Thanks for clarifying it Martin. y)

Not really fair and it will make me seriously consider about flying VS in future - and certainly if I were in your shoes losing 18 !!

What incentive is there to continue using VS if you are close to achieving your next/required status and can't carry them over ?

When will companies who run such loyalty schemes realise it's things like this that make prople move away !

Poor show Virgin ! v( v(

I mostly fly economy (company policy), so I guess the answer to that question is that as long as I have my AU card, the incentive is: clubhouse access, revivals, priority boarding, UC tagged luggage, double miles and a SSC for my wife.

If I flew BA for those flights I would have sh**ty service and no benefits :$

Keeps me loyal :)

Oh come on - quit your griping!

You have to achieve a minimum of 40Tp to retain Au in a year, and lucky you hit it after 9 months, but are complaining that any TP in the next 3 months are 'lost'. No - they aren't. TP have no value outside of hitting renewal/membership levels, that is it. There is nothing monetary about them, you reached your minimum requirement, you have AU, with all its very real benefits, and you should just be happy!

Narikin - you made me laugh, thanks. I couldn't agree with you more :D

In answer to CC's comment, my point was that there are loads of things.

So I'm not griping at all - quite the opposite, I'm very happy with those benefits. (In fact I thought your response was to CC until I read the AU comment).

Answer to above question: Loads of good things that make life much better.

Its rather annoying n( that once you hit the magic 30 that you are not reset so your new earnng year can begin - seems kind of strange to me but they are the rules of the game it would seem....... v(

At 60TP last year I received a couple of CH invitations to give out to family or friends. Not sure if this is still the case. The invitation was for a single entry to either Heathrow or Gatwick Clubhouse. It could be used with or without the gold member being present

And if you get to 100TP plus, well....shhhh

oh no, my "quit gripping" was indeed at the OP - alright he/she may not be AU, my bad, but if just AG there's even less to complain about. TP are TP, nothing else. you are not loosing anything, if people want the counter to reset the minute the hit the magic 30 (soon to be 40) then they will complain when they don't get a full year of membership, etc. Cake. Eat. Too.

I did indeed get the apropos Monty Python quote :)

My "gripe" doesnt relate to maintaining status but rather when you change - up or down !

For example, I missed renewing AG last year by one TP. No problem, rules are rules, so took it on the chin. However, checking back recently, it transpires that I lost two TP's when I moved up to AG !!! Is that really fair ? n(

So, I've now had one TP "drop off" and hope it won't be the same this year. Also, wouldn't it be fun if I missed AU by just the one TP that was taken away. (or should I say dropped off which is the official term !! )

I agree the benefits of AU are significant and I wouldn't complain if I qualified. However, getting there now is such hard work that every TP counts.
