Great news indeed.. Selfishly speaking, just hope it takes them more than 10 days to sort the ballot out which will mean my outbound on the 23rd will be safe. Not really bothered for the return as I am sure I can bear a few more days on the west coast :)

There's no doubt that some people who were looking to book in the next few weeks will have avoided the uncertainty and booked elsewhere. But I'm not sure how high in the general public psyche this was, the resolution of which didn't even make the six o' clock news. The "strike that didn't come to a strike" and appears to have been resolved in a little over two weeks cannot be compared to what happened with British Airways.

I fully understand the anxiety for those, mostly holidaymakers, during the last two weeks but if people switch airlines based on potential strikes or solvency concerns for that matter they will end up with limited choice.

The psychology of strike threats on the travelling public is interesting. I have recently been happily oblivious to the fact that TAP had announced a strike date on the day I'm due to fly with them to Lisbon. It was all resolved before I found out = zero anxiety. Neither TAP nor BMI (its a codeshare) thought it was worth notifying me.

So is it better to be told when you are actually disrupted or told there is a potential risk?

Well I was one of the ones who could potentially have been affected by the strikes given the dates of the ballot. Having gone through strike threats with other airlines that never ever materialised I learned to hold tough but must admit to breathing a sigh of relief once my outbound was safe. :) Like some others have posted, if the strike meant a longer dalliance in San Francisco - well I could have lived with that. :o)

I can't get on Facebook from work, does it say anything different to what we already know?!

Nope - it just reiterates exactly what we already know. Strike called off, pilots being re-balloted.

Relief of course , but now I hear another volcano in Iceland is making ominous noises. Don't tell me we celebrate being able to fly and then get hit by an ash cloud !!! :(!

Excellent news as it looks as though our trip to the mouse is safe at the end of the month. I seem to remember a similar emotional roller coaster with the CC strike threat which was called off at the last moment (before we were due to fly).

There has to be a better way of dealing with these things as it can only do the overall business harm not to mention the loss of trust and respect on both sides.

I hope this is the last time we will be reading about such things in relation to VA as I'm not sure I could stand another unplanned roller coaster ride, I prefer to do these in the parks.

I was just down at the airport and happened to bump into the Captain and FO flying the VS34 tonight, had a quick chat with them, they said they had just recently received word of the new offer (whilst in their hotel) but were yet to find out the specifics, they seemed in good spirits though. Then watched the take-off from my house, which was delayed by several minutes after a cat decided to take a snooze in the middle of the runway, the ATC conversation was quite amusing :P
