Saturday morning I was charged £13.60 for 2 flight bookings ( G Upper Rewards) for using my credit card for the fees and surcharges. Yesterday for 2 cash PE to MBJ the price had doubled to £25.60. n( Does anyone know why there was such a big difference? ?|

Personally i think if you use the VS AMEX or any other branded card to book with that company then they should wave the fees.

Some already do to persuade you to have their card.

I always now get my foreign currency from Tesco's using the Clubcard credit card as they treat it as a purchase and not a cash advance so no fees. use any other credit card and you pay the fees, brand loyalty !

Because the card companies charge a % rate fee to the company, although at a lower rate.

Debit cards are free I believe, but don't offer the same protection as a CC does. I think you can pay by cash at the airport though. Who accepts personal cheques anymore ?|

What for???!!!

Yeah, I think it's scandalous that we're charged for cc payment. I'm convinced these are already factored in in some way, shape or form anyway. It's just yet another rip-off, but aside from using debit card, what choice is there? And a debit card doesn't give you payment protection.... grrrr... But also, it would be a nice gesture to waive those fees for a card aligned to VS....

It is shocking that they get away with this,

When I go to the supermarket and buy my groceries or to the tube station to top up my oyster or buy clothes or books the CC fees are built into the cost.

I don't get charged a CC fee on top of the price of the goods there so why should I when buying an airline ticket.

You can get protection if paying by Visa Debit card under the VISA chargeback scheme, provided you claim within 120 days of the transaction.

Another approach is to take out Sheduled Airline Failure Insurance - costs about £5 per person - this covers against the financial failure of the airline.

We have discussed the issue of payment protection before and it often gets raised in the travel and money supplements in the weekend papers.

Whilst there may be some protection when using a debit card it is not the same level as when using a credit card which is of a higher level and enshrined in law and involves the provider of goods / services sharing liability with the credit card supplier for non provision of the service.

Boo

well yes but Expedia are on-line only so not in this but yes a high street agent may well take cash but you obviously loose any protection you get that you would have got if you paid by credit card.

This is true and experience is that the banks pretend not to know about Visa chargeback.
