What is the "done thing" when approaching the gate, for priority boarding, at LHR?

We joined the general queue - outside the gate - but another guy just purposefully walked through the crowd. I decided to do the same (although with some "excuse mes" thrown in), dragging husband and toddler with me. There were a few VERY peeved people in the main queue! Finally got to the "split" (where you can enter Priority Boarding) and all was then ok... :|

Not sure if we did the right thing or not... would have waited in the main queue, but not with other UC passengers cutting the queue.

Couldn't Virgin START their Priority Boarding in a much more useful place (i.e. outside the gate entrance)?

We have always just walked straight to the front where the UC queue is, though saying that the Econ queue has always been to the side so no need to push past; those problems occur when try to get to the UC air bridge.
Still get the looks of reverse snobbery, but that's part of the fun :P

It can depend on the gate. Last year when the gate was on the left hand side it was easy to set up the priority boarding lines. This year it was on the other side but I just strolled past as if I were going to a gate further along and then cut in at the door with very little fuss

Did this (walked to front of queue) on our last trip. It was a long queue and we got some very dirty looks, as well as one guy moaning very loudly to his partner... I didn't feel it appropriate though to say anything or try to explain why I was doing it, so other than 'an excuse me', I said nothing... I felt uncomfortable pushing through like that, it would be so much better if there was always a dedicated line....

Thanks, glad that I wasn't being unreasonable: it seemed "sensible" to cut the line and I wasn't going to stand there like a sheep whilst everyone else did.

It is just an awful shame that VS don't run it a lot better (so that you can avoid the "daggers" xx( ). We were at gate 22, I think (on the RHS).

If you've got the right to the priority queue, just be polite ("excuse me" is fine) and quietly pleased that you don't need to queue with the masses. After all you've paid for it.
