I came through the new security at LGW South terminal last Monday. From what I could see, the old security isn't there anymore and everyone uses the new security upstairs. I didn't notice any premium security channels, though to be honest, I wasn't looking for them I was was flying back home to Guernsey. The new features are the automatic gates, you scan your own boarding pass and then look into the camera for your picture to be taken. Once done, the gate opens and lets you through to the baggage scan lanes. There are a lot more lanes then there used to be. Lines were fairly long, but didn't take too much time to get through. Usual hold up of people not preparing and waiting till they were at the scan before taking their coats off/ liquids out. All in all looks impressive, but I guess it should do for the GBP45M that it has cost.

There is a new series on Sky at the moment called Inside Gatwick.

The first one featured the new security system quite extensively and repeated over and over again how much it cost. Knowing Sky it will be repeated to death, or may still be available on Sky Anytime.

I found it interesting, as it featured an old colleague of mine Geoff Williams, who is the Head of Security there. :D

Yeah I watched the Inside Gatwick programme on Sky. Found it quite interesting, though I agree, they did seem to repeat how much the new security area cost quite a lot.

Geoff Williams is head of security? I must have missed that, in my defense they did only mention it about 47,000 times during the one hour program ii) :w

Nice to see another airport program that actually focasses on the running of the airport rather than the pax who forget their passport.
