HI guys sorry if this has been asked before but after using the search option i could not find any info to help me.

Virgin Atlantic are saying i can have one hand baggage size 23x36x56cm and one checking baggage size 90x75x43cm

I have just been out today and got some trolly type cases and my checking baggage is 73cm High 47cm in length and 35cm in depth will this be ok? and my hand baggage is 55cm High 34cm in length and 23/24 in depth (i say 23/24 as its 23 when u press down but 24 free standing)as it has dubble zips so when pressed in it goes to 23cm so will this be ok or will they be like sorry its 24 you will need to put it as extra checking baggage that will be like £40 please.

any advice/tips would be great thx as this is my first time ever flying/going on holiday and dont want to make a mess
as i fly in like 4 weeks.

Welcome to V-Flyer.

The Virgin website has very good information about all aspects of baggage - here,

Firstly, checked baggage - whilst the site does list dimensions, the most important thing is the weight - if you go over the allowance, be prepared for a hefty surcharge.

With regards to cabin baggage, this is a constant bugbear to me, and some others. We have all been on flights where people seem to carry on multiple massive cases, handbags and huge duty free bags with apparent impunity.

The problem when you exceed any of the given measurements, if could cause a problem - it is unlikely that a cm or two would cause an issue, but no one can guarantee it. If you get a 'rules are rules' agent, then there is little anyone can do to argue.

If this is your first trip, and you want to make is special, then I would make sure that every measurement is under or equal to the maximum.

The views of others may vary.. 8D :D

Thx for the reply i have checked the weight and im all good there it was just the cm over on the hand baggage.

Also do you know if it would be a charge each way if they make me check my hand baggage or does the one time cost over the return?

sorry to be a pain and thx again for the reply.

To be honest, I'd say you'd be absolutely fine. Having been on VS flights to the Caribbean I have seen numerous passengers with HUGE bags and lots of them! :0

I have to say, they have never once asked me to place my hand luggage into any form of gauge but always check the weight to ensure it does not exceed the limits (10kg I believe?). 1cm will be fine if you can squeeze it into the gauge should they ask you to.

With regard to payment, if it was excess baggage you were being charged for that would be a one way charge and would apply on the way back, if you were still over your allowance.
