Planning trip to San Diego next March so looking at VS flights to LAX.

Return flights are either 18.30 (008) or 22.15 (024).

Haven't done this route before so wondering which flight back best for jet lag?
Have to work next day so any advice appreciated.

Hi there.

Which class are you flying?

I've done this route a few times (in PE and UC), mostly on VS024. If you have an early start/tiring day planned and fall asleep easily then maybe VS008 is the better bet as it gets in at an earlier UK time (+ Revivals is still open if you are AU or flying UC). That way you are more awake and hopefully starting to adjust earlier, also better if you have other things you need to do once you've arrived in the UK.

VS024 doesn't get in until late afternoon, so if you are less likely to get a decent snooze on the plane, maybe go for that and then you are closer to normal bed time after you have got back. It of course helps if you have an easy journey after the flight.

Whichever flight it is, don't stay up too late, but don't go to sleep too early either. Early-mid evening will be that you should get a load of sleep but still be up for the following day. It's the day after that which normally gets me!

Just my 2 cents, am sure other people will have their own opinions.

FWIW I prefer the VS 24 for two reasons.
1. You have a full day to use the day you return.
2. I get more rest on the later flight - a solid 5.5 hrs last week for me (which more than made up for the lack of Revivals on arrival). The VS 8 completely bu**ers me as I start to fall asleep at about midday the following day ][|) ][|) .
Even if Revivals isn't an option for you I'd still be swayed by the VS 24.

Hi

I would go with the 24, my wife tends not to sleep well on the longer return legs from the US and that causes problems with the recovery the next few days if she is returning straight back to work. We flew back in PE during the summer and she got a really decent snooze on the trip, me also, prefered departure for us.

Thanks for the comments. Planning on flying UC with miles so I guess depends on G availability in next week or two when I book.

Ideally would prefer to return from SFO (great clubhouse too) which would allow me to spend a day in San Francisco on return but no reward availability at the moment.

As suggested will probably go for later flight - anyone any experience of the ANZ lounge at LAX?

Whilst it's no CH it's my favourite non CH lounge :) . Great views (when it's light) and great wines :D . The food is in the main a cold buffet (with a soup cauldron) but they do bring out a couple of hot items (chicken fricasee last week) and sometimes cakes etc. I've been there three times in the past year (and numerous times in previous years) and it is consistently good. Last week the first call for the VS 24 was "walked" to the gate (which I've never seen at LAX).
We didn't bother, but stayed enjoying the very nice sauv blanc :D :D and wandered down on final call.

Agree, ANZ lounge is a nice place to spend a few hours, the wines are excellent. They have decent showers as well which is always a bonus.
